Hmmm, yeah that does seem to be an odd word. It might be more of a
name than a word I guess.
It seems to be a piece of code that starts the boot process.
Would you please give an explanation about 'shim' or a synonym for
it?
The shim is the piece of code that sits between the UEFI firmware and
GRUB and kernel to cryptographically verify all the bits.
