Proposal: Fedora G11N Steering Committee

Hi All, I am sure, most of the people working with Fedora I18N, L10N from 5-6 year must be aware regarding Fedora L10N Steering Committee. [1] As far as i know this committee was active around 2009 and very effective. During Fedora G11N activity day discussions, we again felt there is need for some kind of official committee to drive Fedora Globalization activities. Fedora is growing faster with number of different domains and G11N also need to adapt those changes quickly to remain on the track. For this purpose and in line with [1], we were thinking of Fedora Globalization steering committee. I have created initial proposal for it. [2] Its open for feedback, please feel free to share other active members, discuss in your respective language groups. This is just initial proposal and i am sure, we can improve and make it more effective with active participation. Fedora 29 I18N bug triage

Hi all, The F29 I18N bug triage activity has been planned. Following is the wiki page - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/F29_I18N_Bug_Triage There are total 41 bugs for I18N as of now, with 8 slots containing 5 bugs each (last slot contains 6). All you have to do is, pick a slot of your choice and check the bugs in it against latest available Fedora release. If it is reproducible, change the release version accordingly and note your observations in comments. If not, then you can mark it as closed and just strikeout the bug id on the wiki page. The planned dates for this triage activity are September 02-13, 2019. So it will be great, if you can contribute here. Me and the Fedora Project: Since my first year of college I've been using Linux operating systems to have my assignments done, because it was mandatory to use Linux. But, I started researching what was available online and found, among others, Fedora. Fedora has been the one who catch my eye because of it's richness and recency. Since last year I am trying to use Fedora fulltime on my laptop but I've noticed some translations flaws and I would like to make my contribution to make it better. Weblate and Machine Translation

The Fedora Machine Learning SIG has a proposal on tutorials on how to deploy machine learning applications. One area of application of machine learning is translation. Following are some open source Machine translation engines: http://opennmt.net/, https://github.com/facebookresearch/UnsupervisedMT, https://github.com/moses-smt/mosesdecoder, http://thumt.thunlp.org/, https://marian-nmt.github.io/ Are there preferences on which of these is of most interest or if there are others that should be considered? It is likely the case that the best settings and translation engines will be language dependent. Interfacing these to Weblate will help improve the translation speed and reduce redundant work. Translation platform migration: status update

Dear localization teams, yesterday (august 11th), during Flock at Budapest, all items written in the migration plan were discussed and agreed. Future translation platform will be Weblate. I opened this ticket to the Fedora Council to get the budget to make our translation platform hosted by the Weblate company itself: https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/268 If all goes fine, we'll have a testing period with a few projects and a GO/NO GO in December. Our community need to have more than one person being able to _administrate_ Weblate (mostly adding projects/components and configuring processes). Please express your interest if you feel like you can help on this subject, we'll do the first configuration, document it and test it together so we can learn together. --- additional information Access information about this migration: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N_Move_to_Weblate My personal goal during my talk was to make sure we shared the "context" and "current processes" titles of these pages, including strengths and weaknesses, so that what I wrote represent the community as a whole, and not my own point of view. Please note some feedback done during the session are not yet added to the wiki, but doesn't really impact the request done to Council. The "User stories" would require quite a lot of work to be complete and be really useful, but take it as an overview of key features we expect. I may go further in describing it over time to help explain how Weblate will work. Transtats just got better with 0.7.5 release

Hi, With the deployment of Transtats[1] latest release at https://transtats.fedoraproject.org/ we can track language wise translation effort for fedora releases, and the languages for which package(s) are out of sync! Language maintainers may find https://transtats.fedoraproject.org/languages/ useful. (just click your language) Transtats can estimate how much of the translations are actually packaged. Transtats use cases[2] may help identify how to utilize it for tracking purposes. Folks here may find "fedora release readiness" feature interesting.
