Hi,
Had, the same. In a report [1] at
bugs.kde.org it was suggested that is has to
do with sound. I disabled all sound notifications in kopete and my problem was
over. May be this can help.
Looking over that bug, the problem seems to be related to
phonon-backend-gstreamer. I use phonon-backend-vlc and don't have
this problem at all.
So, if you still want notification sounds you might give that a try.
