nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

Kate not installed by default on Fedora 16
by Sonic
Hi..
I just found out that Kate was not installed by default on Fedora 16
even though I had selected 'KDE Software Development' during
installation. KDevelop is installed, but not Kate.
Was this a concious decision or a mistake?

No desktop background f17
by Neal Becker
Just installed f17. Right click on desktop, desktop settings. There is 'beefy
miracle'. Select the image. Try 'apply' or 'ok'. Nothing happens. Background
is still black.

Mouse Clicks
by Peter G.
Has anyone noticed that for a bout a week mouse clicks are almost impossible?
Sometimes a single click opens a program twice, sometimes a single click will not
tick/untick a button until it is done 4 or 5 times, sometimes it is almost impossible
to drop down a drop-down menu with a mouse click, etc.

Non-working global shortcut
by Anne Wilson
My laptop has been away for repair. When it came back there was no
paperwork - I've no idea what was done to it, but there are a couple of
very strange things. Of course, the first thing I did when it came back
was update, so it's possible that something there is involved.
1) Not important, but strange - the panel clock was 1 hour wrong.
2) My defined shortcut to launch kpat, my chosen lunchtime relaxation,
no longer works. I deleted it and redefined it, but no joy.
The clock business is just a curiosity. Short of messing with the bios
setting I can't think why that would be. I'd really like to get the
shortcut working again. What could interfere with that?

Worth a bugzilla?
by Ed Greshko
Looking for an opinion.....
I've verified a bug on 2 fully updated F16 systems. It involves KDE, ibus, and
LibreOffice but I suspect it is a KDE problem since it works in GNOME.
The problem no longer exists in F17. So, the question, is it worthwhile to submit a
bugzilla against F16 when you know the issue doesn't exist in F17?

Good experience with calligra
by José Abílio Matos
Hi all,
probably this is the wrong place for this comment but since I am
overloaded with work it should be better here than nowhere. :-)
I am quite pleased with calligra import of docx documents, sometimes
my students send me docx documents with math formulas (or related) and I
have been able to read them with calligra suite but not with libreoffice.
Note that this is only for reading and not writing or editing or whatever.
I should also say that I have written tips to explain them that pdf is a
better format for file transfer FWIW.

Amarok 2.5.0 has a bad memory leak
by Gerald B. Cox
Just an FYI in case like me you leave amarok running at times... don't....
Amarok memory leak when changing tracks
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=298627
Easily reproducible - just load up a playlist and
select the repeat playlist option.
The only plugins I am using are mass
storage device and lastfm.
I ran the following command to document the leak:
top -b -d 150 -p 11866 > amarok.txt
I then imported the results into a google spreadsheet you can view here:
http://goo.gl/Q4bZw
Memory utilization started out at 7.4% and ended up at 31.9% after approx 48
hours. The leak is steady and unrelenting. I ran the same playlist under QMMP
during the same period and memory utilization was steady at 2.5% throughout the
period.

kdewebdev forever QT3
by Reindl Harald
hi
does anybody now if kdewebdev will be ported to KDE4/QT4
the for me only important app is "/usr/bin/kfilereplace"
and the dependencies are really large for one small tool
besides the additional work upstream to maintain the
more or less dead QT3
