I just found out that Kate was not installed by default on Fedora 16
even though I had selected 'KDE Software Development' during
installation. KDevelop is installed, but not Kate.
Was this a concious decision or a mistake?
Yesterday I upgraded from F15 to F16. This went smoothly (almost) but
after the restart there were ugly processes running and tacking much of
the CPU power: tracker-*
AFAIK these processes are the "nepomuk" part of gnome and I don't need
them. Why are the tracker processes activated in a typical KDE environment?
If so, are the last few pixels of the last character of the hostname cut

I can't logout/restart/shut down from a KDE session. Nothing happens. I'm on
Fedora 16 with the kde48 repo enabled. I've tried it running kdm and gdm. I
can logout of a GNOME session running either display manager. I've recently
upgraded from Fedora 14, and this hasn't worked since the upgrade. I can
suspend and switch user. Is anyone else having this problem, or does anyone have

My printer is set up to have two profiles - one for every day duplex
printing, and one for 2-up printing, since we don't have full brochure
I recently used the second profile, and since then I find that the
flip is set to short-side every time I start to use the first profile.
Hplip says it is set to long-edge.
System Settings > Printer Configuration says it is set to long-edge.
The print-job pop-up says it is set to long-edge
CUPS says it is set to long-edge
So where on earth can it be finding the short-edge setting?

I'm running with "system settings -> window behavior -> focus follows mouse" and am having problems with the focus sometimes NOT being the widget where the mouse pointer is located.
I have alt-up set to raise a widget and alt-down to toggle up/down behavior. Am I misunderstanding how this setting should work. When I raise/lower widgets, the focus does NOT always follow the mouse.

Hi to all,
I am using kontact/kmail to manage my emails accounts.
I have a lot of data to manage, I have a lot of filter to apply to my
emails. Before kmail2 no problems, nothing! From kmail2 kde and kontact are
impossible to use.
Kmail2 use akonadi and all time I open kontact I need to wait 5-10 minutes
before I can see one email.
mysqld use all my cpu too much times. I am on laptop, if I am using battery
it is better for me to don't open kmail and view my emails because the cpu
is nearly all the time at 100% usage from mysqld akonadi and
akonadi_nepomuk (I don't enable nepomunk on systemsettings, I don't need
Every time kmail auto-downloading emails from server I have a windows that
asking me how to resolve a conflict of downloaded emails.
I don't understand how to resolve all of these issues.
I am using kde-pim 4.7.4.
Have you got any suggestion?
Hey, folks. Sorry I didn't manage to send out any of these notifications
up till now, but we have an Alpha RC now which is looking pretty good so
far, and the Go/No-Go meeting is tomorrow, so if you could help do the
desktop validation tests for your desktops that'd be great.
The validation page with info and instructions is here:
Downloads are here:
John Dulaney has already done several of the tests (thanks John, if
you're reading!) and we have the necessary minimum coverage for
sign-off, but it's always good to cover all desktops and get the Beta /
Final tests done at Alpha stage so we know what's broken. So if you get
a minute to help out, please do! Thanks.
