nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

KDE SIG Badge
by Ralph Bean
Hello all,
A new Fedora badge has been proposed for "membership in the KDE SIG":
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-badges/ticket/132
As far as I can see, there is not a formal definition of membership in
the group. Some options for awarding the badge:
- We could create a new FAS group and trigger the badge awarding off
of that. Lots of other badges work this way, so it is easy to do.
The only downside is that you have a FAS group with no other real
purpose than for handing out badges. It has to be maintained,
pruned eventually, etc..
- Or, instead, we could take one or two volunteers from the SIG to be
'in charge' of the badge. There is a self-service interface in the
webapp where they could manually award the badge to sig members as
they see fit.
I'd like to do it however the sig wants it done. Can you hash it out
and let the badges crew know by posting back in the trac ticket above?
Cheers-
-Ralph

Plasma 5 - Netwerk Settings panel only containing 1 tab entry
by Jan Swaelens
Hello,
I'm working on fedora 21 (3.17.8-300.fc21.x86_64) and just installed Plasma
5 along with KDE frameworks (5.5.0-1).
It seems though the System Settings - Netwerk Settings panel only contains
1 tab 'SSL Prefs' and not the other ones such as Proxy, Connection
Preferences, SSL Preferences, Cache, Cookies, Browser Identification.
Does anyone know how I can get the other entries back?
thanks

criterion update: add "switch user" to Shutdown, reboot, logout
by Kamil Paral
Hello,
we're discussing a release criterion which is tightly related to GNOME and KDE environments. Could your teams please provide some feedback on the proposed criterion update, see below? Is user switching something you believe should be working (and in which milestone?), or should we rather de-emphasize/remove that function?
Please respond to the test@ list, if possible, to avoid fragmenting the discussion.
Thanks!

Upgrading KDE in rawhide to Plasma 5
by Dan Vratil
Hi all,
this is an announcement that KDE SIG has pushed Plasma 5, the next major
version of KDE workspaces, into rawhide as part of the Plasma 5 change for
Fedora 22 [0].
The upgrade path from KDE 4 should be smooth and doable simply through yum
update without any need for manual intervention, however if you run into any
troubles related to Plasma/KDE we ask you to report them to KDE SIG.
If you want to know more about Plasma 5.2, you can check out the official
release announcement [1]. If you are looking for something more exhausting to
read while you are waiting for yum, you can read Kev Vermette's 10 pages of
Plasma 5.2: Quintessential Breakdown [2] ;-).
For Fedora 20 and Fedora 21 users, Plasma 5 is still available through
dvratil/plasma-5 Copr.
Cheers,
Daniel

Plasma 5: first impressions
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I just installed Plasma 5 from the COPR repo. A fairly easy process (had
to remove a few packages but no big deal). A couple of issues at first
glance:
1) My carefully-tuned KDE settings are all gone, e.g. Dolphin, Konsole,
virtual desktops, lockscreen behaviour etc. Can these be recovered
easily (I have backups)? Why does this happen anyway, especially to apps
which are independent of Plasma?
2) Speaking of virtual desktops, I can no longer see how to configure
how they look in the panel. In the old system I had each one labelled
with a name, but that no longer appears except when I hover the cursor,
which slows down switching.
Plasma is shiny and fast, so I'm generally positive so far, but these
details are going to annoy a lot of people.

Re: updates-testing pulls kdepim
by Rex Dieter
I guess now that I said that out loud, one solution would be to (re)create a kopete-cryptography subpkg so that these extra deps are pulled in only for those people that want it.

kopete includes cryptography support/plugins, which use kleopatra (infrastructure, libraries, from kdepim).

It is not really relevant if something is 'basic' or not. To decide
whether to block on a bug, you should look at:
1) How many users are affected ?
2) How significantly is their use of the system affected ?
3) Is there an easy workaround ?
In all of these, user switching is just not in the same league as logout
or shutdown.
Having more criteria is good if you have too many qa people who can't
figure out how to spend their time.

uhm why should kopete pull kdepim?
kopete works here fine with our Jabber-server, ICQ and Facebookchat for
weeks on completly kdepim-free setups!

Thanks.
Looks like the kdepim "split up the monolithic package" job is incomplete, though I still can't explain some of the new deps, kopete should have pulled in kdepim-libs (and kdepim) already before this latest update.

the horrible copy&paste of "yum remove" is likely
