nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

DBus error from kdeinit4
by Patrick O'Callaghan
After updating my system today I decided to follow the recommendation
from tracer and restart kdeinit4 to see what would happen (normally I
would just log out and in again).
$ kdeinit4
kdeinit4: Shutting down running client.
Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)
KDE Daemon (kded) already running.
kbuildsycoca4 running...
kbuildsycoca4(9927)/kdecore (services) KServicePrivate::init: The desktop entry file "ServiceMenus/servicemenueditor.desktop" has Type= "Application" but is located under " "services" " instead of "apps"
kbuildsycoca4(9927) KBuildServiceFactory::createEntry: Invalid Service : "ServiceMenus/servicemenueditor.desktop"
kbuildsycoca4(9927) VFolderMenu::loadDoc: Parse error in "/home/poc/.config/menus/applications-merged/xdg-desktop-menu-dummy.menu" , line 1 , col 1 : "unexpected end of file"
What does this mean? Could it be related to the fact that Plasma and Kmix crash every time I log out?

F21: fedora-easy-karma / bodhi / updates testing / kf5-baloo

besdies that updates-testing is broken for days now it becomes boring
the fedora-easy-karma still don't work
bodhi2 at https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/ is unusable for testers
because the search field seeks for users, no idea how to get to the
current firefox build for give karama as example

*what is that*
yum --skip-broken update tries "kf5-baloo replacing baloo.x86_64
4.14.3-1.fc21" and pulls a ton of KF5 dependencies which is a bad joke
if the only installed QT/KDE5 application is "sddm"
well, and even if you say yes, the deps are horrible broken and since my
systems are minimal-setups i doubt that anybody got that installed

Problems logging out
by Roderick Johnstone
Hi
I've previously reported problems logging out of kde sessions in F22,
but that was when I was using the nvidia drivers from rpmfusion:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1238698
I'm now seeing something very similar on nouveau and intel driver
systems (with the nvidia driver though there was a 100% cpu ksmserver
process which I don't see now):
On my nouveau driver system, after selecting logout I got the
dimmed/vignetted screen but no confirmation dialogue to click on. It
hasn't timed out either, so I'm currently still working on the vignetted
screens (dual monitor setup).
Another of my users who is using the intel driver on his system has the
dim screen (but apparently not vignetted) after trying to log out - no
logout dialogue either.
Anyone else see this?
I wonder if its due to being still logged in after the qt5 5.5 updates
came in?
If there is any diagnostic info I can get I'd be happy to bz it.

can't login more than once
by Glenn Holmer
This just started happening: I log in, and the progress bar freezes
before showing the desktop. The journal shows a core dump for
kactivitymanage. I can delete ~/.kde/ and I'm able to login again...
once. When I log out and then back in, it freezes again.
How do I get out of this?

[radeon] plasma screen corruption/nothing to click on except crash notifier -> black screen
by Felix Miata
host fi965
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
RV370 [Radeon X600/X600 SE] using radeon driver
F23 x86_64 freshly dnf upgraded from last same about 10 weeks ago (4.2.rc8
kernel)
initial screen corruption eventually clears to black
plasmashell PID 1621/1667/1687 segmentation fault (11)
multi-user.target startup -> startx
IIRC, theme selected is whatever alternative to Breeze was found, likely Oxygen
If I un-disable compositing (set via xorg.conf*), crash notifier never
appears, and screen corruption remains until Ctrl-Alt-BS
.xsession-errors is not being written
no BRC bug on point less than 5 months touched last found
After clicking off notifiers, screen goes black. No response to Ctrl-Alt-BS
with keyboard configured via default /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf.
Ctrl-Alt-Fn works. Ctrl-Alt-BS works after fixing 00-keyboard.conf and
restarting X.
IceWM works normally on same installation.
F22/KDE works normally on same host.
Tumbleweed works normally on same host, though it's still using as much of
KDE4 as remains available, Breeze is not there used, and Oxygen fonts are not
there installed as a form of locking out Plasma5.
Same problem on same host with freshly upgraded Rawhide.
Prior kernels 4.1.rc2 and 4.0.rc4 didn't help. While in 4.0.rc4, something
exhausted freespace on EXT4 F23 /. On reboot, it recovered to 37% free of
4.8G total, and dnf clean all brought free to 39%.
I replicated with variation on host big41 with rv380 radeon, but by
incrementally dnf upgrading and starting after each increment. On the 5th
group, kf5*, the trouble started. Excerpt from dnf.log containing the cuplrit:
http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/Linux/F/dnflog-badKF5.txt
The variation on host big41 (F23) is that the splash/desktop background and
progress window paint instead of the screen corrupting. Post-crash the
background is black.
I shut it down, moved the VGA cable to the onboard Intel 4000 port, removed
the rv380, and the problem disappeared (1440x900 @108 DPI).
I shut it down again, installed a G84 (GT8600), put VGA cable on its #1 DVI
port via adapter required for the LCD, and the problem remained gone (working
1440x900).
I shut down again, put in an ATI Cedar, connected the VGA cable to it, and
again booted to a working 1440x900 Plasma desktop.
To follow up, I went to an ATI Radeon rv200 installation, dnf upgraded its
(30 July) F23 to today's, and it works as expected, before and after today's
upgrade.
Suggestions welcome, not sure whether this should have gone to xorg list,
test list, devel list, somewhere upstream, or straight to BZ, instead of here
in kde.

kf5-kactivities: dvratil-plasma-5 behind fedora 21 updates
by Michael J Gruber
For Fedora 21:
kf5-kactivities-{devel,libs) in updates are at 5.12.0-1.fc21
kf5-kactivities in dvratil-plasma-5 is at 5.11.0-1.fc21.1.plasma5
Needs a rebuild to make the update go through, I guess.
Thanks in advance,
Michael
