nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?

I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also, search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is kde specific. -gene

folks have repeatedly asked about newer/featureful kde builds for rhel6 over the years, and I've put off mostly due to lack of interest and time... until yesterday. Making some good progress, so our mostly empty rhel6 kde-testing repo should see some significant content showing up over the next week or so. Warning: It'll be rough initially, we're at the "it builds! ship it..." stages, so copious testing and feedback would be greatly appreciated. My strategy so far is to minimize upgrading core el6 packages as much as reasonably possible. We'll see how far that takes us. -- rex

Install Plasma Resources???

I installed F18 last week, and now when I log in, I get a pop up message box with the subject as the title. The top line then says "Plasma requires an additional service for this operation". Then there is an icon with "script engine" out to the side. Finally, at the bottom, it says "The following service is required. Do you want to search for this now?", and a Continue button and a Cancel button. When I click on the Continue, it comes back with "Failed to search for Plasma service" as the top line, and a big yellow triangle with "Could not find service in any configured software source" There is a Close button that deletes the message box. What is it looking for? What do I do to make it quit coming up? The only other strange thing that I observe that might possibly be connected is that when I try to start yumex, it fails with a message YUM: The value for the SHELL variable was not found the /etc/shells file /etc/shells has all the entries that are in it on another machine where yumex works. -- Lester M Petrie

Telepathy SIP account using wrong IP for VPN connection

I was trying to configure a SIP (VOIP) account in telepathy (Accounts module) and it kept failing. I tried Twinkle and it connected straight away. So I looked at a packet capture and it turns out the sofiasip connection was using my local home network IP to connect to the SIP server on a vpn connection. Once I ran the following command it connected straight away. mc-tool update sofiasip/sip/_312563_40ccm_2duse_2emy_2esip_2eexample_2ecom0 string:local-ip-address=10.XXX.XXX.XXX Is this expected behaviour? I checked for a KDE bug but could not find one. Happy to create one if that's what needs to happen. Cheers, Brad

Rex: I'm starting to play around with Qt5 and QML2. Can you give me any hints on how to set up a Qt5 environment on Fedora 18 (x86_64) that will allow things to co-exist with the standard Qt 4.8 that is part of Fedora 18? Thanks, George

how to get rid of transparency in KDE 4.10 with the air theme? WHAT are developers thinking by phyiscally hurting people with health problems on their yes? switch to Oxygen? no, it is depressive dark air is a perfect theme in the contect of colors but the transparency of notifies and lancelot-starter makes it really hard to work over many hours

Akonadi Error "Failed to retrieve resource collection"

Anyone seeing this error? It started after I upgraded my Fedora 17 to KDEPIM 4.9.5 this morning and then continued after I upgraded to Feodra 18 and KDEPIM/KMail 4.10.1-1. How do I fix this??? I *have* filed a bug report (Bug #317293 on bugs.kde.org) but haven't heard anything back yet....'course it's only been this afternoon, but still...

windows envy

I'm rarely jealous of windows users. When I make a presentation using my wide- screen laptop, using a crappy projector that is limited to 1280x1024, the best I can figure is to put the projector 'right of' and the laptop on the left, leaving the laptop at it's native res and the projector at 1280x1024. Works, but awkward - for one thing can't see the presentation on the laptop. I noticed my colleague (windows 7?) did a sort of clone, where the projector got his 1280x1024, while the laptop kept the native res, but the image was narrowed. Hey, that's just what I need. I guess the world of X, kde, nvidia, etc doesn't do this?

kcm_touchpad

I am testing, for 7 days, a wireless keyboard with built-in touchpad, so I have remove the old USB-wired mouse and keyboaard. The keyboard is fine. The touchpad is deathly slow. I looked in system settings, input devices, touchpad, and see that the module is greyed out, but the button is showing on. I am unable to adjust any settings. I rebooted, just to make sure that the system recognized the presence of the new devices, but that is supposed to be plug and play with usb anyway, isn’t? How can I set the touchpad settings?
