nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

kde 4.9.98 for F17
by Gilboa Davara
Hello Rex,
Due to anaconda / fedup issues I will most likely have to skip F18 on most
of my workstations (neither one seems to be capable of handling
LVM+MD+Luks).
Any chance of getting 4.9.9x and down the road, 4.10.9x to kde-unstable/f17?
Thanks,
- Gilboa

When I try to set my timezone using the KDE settings widget, I get an
error popup:
Error setting new time zone.
Note that the widget doesn't ask for any authentication.
Any thoughts?

Should kscreen "Provides: kde-display-management"?
by Mary Ellen Foster
Hello all,
I have kscreen installed from fedora updates-testing, and I have
kde-unstable enabled. Trying to do an update today, I get the following:
Processing Conflict: 1:kscreen-0.0.71-2.fc18.x86_64 conflicts
kded_randrmonitor
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: kscreen conflicts with kded_randrmonitor-4.9.98-3.fc18.x86_64
However, I can't just remove kded_randrmonitor, as it provides
kde-display-management which is needed by kde-workspace.
And I can't exclude kded_randrmonitor from the update because it requires
the same version of kde-workspace.
If kscreen is meant to conflict with kded_randrmonitor, should it also
provde kde-display-management? That would fix the above yum problem, but
only if kscreen does actually provide something comparable to the randr
thing.
All the best,
MEF

screen lock/power mgmt not working (4.9.98)
by Neal Becker
kdelibs-4.9.98-1.fc18.x86_64
I have set in screen locker:
start auto after 10 min
require pw after 60 sec
And in battery monitor settings
screen energy saver: switch off after 10 min
Same as I've always had.
But this morning, I see that pw prompt is still sitting on screen, it had not
switched off. Can you spell "burn in"?

Problem after updating from kde-testing repo
by Eli Wapniarski
Hey Rex!!!!!
I had a big problem with the latest 4.9.5-4 updates from the
kde-testing repos.
They installed just fine but when I tried to log in, I immediately got
bumped back to the login in screen.
It was a real pain to find the 4.9.5-3 packages again.
:(

xdg-settings rational explanation ???
by Ed Greshko
Hi,
When using chrome as my browser I want ktorrent used for opening magnet links. Originally transmission was being used and the following was the case....
[egreshko@meimei ~]$ xdg-settings get default-url-scheme-handler magnet
transmission-gtk.desktop
So, I did....
xdg-settings set default-url-scheme-handler magnet ktorrent.desktop
No matter how many times I executed that command the "get" still returned transmission-gtk.desktop.
Finally I erased transmission-gtk and transmission-common.
When I first executed the "get" it still returned transmission-gtk.desktop. I then did the "set" again, and finally ktorrent.desktop was returned and chrome used ktorrent as requested.
So, can anyone give a suggestion as to why the "sets" failed to change the settings until transmission was removed from the system?

apper annoyance
by Neal Becker
I'm not sure who's at fault for this one. With f18 there are notifications
about updates shown on my screen. It happens that I had manually run yum
update, and then said 'no' to the update.
Then something (apper?) was causing notifications - about every 5 minutes - to
appear on my screen saying it failed because of incomplete yum transaction. I
went to lunch, came back, and my screen was pretty covered with these.
I manually ran sudo yum-complete-transaction, which informed me there was
_nothing to do_, and this cleared the problem.
This is not very nice behavior.
