Because the wallet isn't opened automatic trough login as gnome does
it with gnome-keyring.
As a workaround, you can use a passwordless wallet. I do that here to
get my wifi automatic connected while i login.
I don't like the idea of a passwordless wallet - it seems to defeat the
object. My laptop and netbook both manage to connect automatically with wifi
networks, so you shouldn't need to drop security like that.
