In the last couple of days, I've had amarok die on me many times. Mostly it happens if I pause playing and am then unable to pause, but sometimes it just seems to freeze while playing and have to be stopped. When this happens, the UI still renders, but no track will ever play. It seems to be entirely unpredictable.
I'll file a bug about this soon, but unfortunately the symptoms are as vague as I described above. I just wanted to check it this is happening to anyone else.

I had Amarok just stop playing and then it wouldn't play anything until it was restarted again. Hasn't happened recently though. Not sure if the updates to phonon have helped out or not.

Are the symptoms equal to: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180339 ?
In that case, join the club. :(

Yup, looks familiar, thanks! :) I've CC'd myself onto the bug and hopefully they'll find the problem soon.

Apparently, someone posted a patch on that bug that should be applied to xine-lib sources. Any chance of including that patch in Fedora until the bug is fixed upstream xine-lib?

Wow, you're fast. Tested and confirmed that it prevents amarok lockups (at least so far).
+1

Ditto here (exact same behavior). This has been happening for as long as I can remember since adding kde-testing and installing 4.2-rc1. Swapping phonon backends didn't help, so I just always ended up 'pkill amarok'-ing it, then restarting it.

Have you looked at /var/log/messages while this happens (when music is paused in Amarok)? For me, the problem is with pulseaudio-alsa. I've to kill amarok (not just close it, it continues in the background) and restart to get playback.
