Will we not have a functioning kaddressbook for the release of Fedora 16?
Presently, no addresses are displayed. It has been like this for weeks (see bz#742367).
KDE Addressbook of type traditional crashes when kaddressbook is launched and the Akonadi addressbook shows nothing.

Hi,
Isn't this a F16Blocker? Based on "All applications listed under the Applications menu or category must withstand a basic functionality test and not crash after a few minutes of normal use. They must also have working Help and Help -> About menu items" [1]. Kaddressbook is listed under the Applications menu (Applications -> Office).

If this is reproducible for everyone, yes (but somebody has to file the bug for it to be considered for blocker status!). But if this passes basic tests on the live image and on a default installation from the live image, this issue is probably not a blocker.

Hi Kevin,
Huh? Peter opened bz#742367 (see his original post, Oct. 16). I've opened #739659 September 19.

Hello Rex,
Ever since F16 Alfa became available I have been trying it out on a virtual machine. I have focused on kdepim with special attention to kmail/kaddressbook as I'm hoping to resolve my longstanding problems with using them for several maillists with many hundred addresses that I'm administering.
However, kaddressbook in F16 has crashed as soon as I have tried to add a new contact. I have tried with different settings for akonadi to no avail. I have followed the discussions on this list, which has been surprisingly quiet on this topic.
Today I tried kdepimlibs-4.7.2-2.fc16 from https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates and suddenly it works! I even made a small group and tried to use it in kmail. That also works! It's not been possible since kaddressbook went akonadi.
Thank you very much for your effort! Jan

Each maillist has a separate sub-addressbook with the relevant addresses (not really necessary, but makes it easier to handle). Then I add all the members into a new group with a suitable name. After that I just select the group in the "to:" or "hidden copy:" field in kmail. The "hidden copy:" in case of large groups with members who don't know each other.
When there is a change (and there are a lot of them when you have many hundred addresses!) I just have to change the contact. If there is someone new or leaving the list I have to add or remove him/her from the group as well, but that is quickly done.
I've exported my contacts from my main machine and subsequently imported them into the virtual machine group by group. That was easy and quick. In fact I intend to export _all_ my contacts and save them before upgrading from F14 to F16. After the upgrade I just import them again. Doing so I will avoid all the problems with migration I've read about on this list. In fact I also consider doing the same with the rest of ~/.kde to start again with a clean set-up!
BTW, a feature that would be really nice: "Select all the contacts you wish and then press 'New group' and all are entered into the group automatically." That would save a lot of work entering them manually!
Regards Jan
