Should bugs be reported for kde-4.4.92 rpms that are provisionally provided by the out-of-fedora kde-unstable repo?
Or should one wait for kde-4.5 to enter at least (fedora) updates-testing (since these are most likely kde programming, not fedora packaging, issues)?
Eg., since a couple of weeks, wobbly windows no longer wobble; since a couple of weeks, desktop cube no longer works; possibly others...

Not much help really to you but..
I reckon it could be a video driver issue, all the "eye candy" is working fine here using rpmfusions nvidia packages.

I have transparency and others, but just got a message stating that:
"The following desktop effects could not be activated:
-Blur -Cover Switch -Desktop Cube -Desktop Cube Animation -Flip Switch -Magic Lamp -Wobbly Windows"
Maybe it is an Intel video driver issue? How would I determine that for certain?

Interesting, I have seen this when I tried to use the Nouveau drivers a while back, never could get those to work with the Desktop effects.

Possibly checking Xsession and Xorg logs may shed some light on the problem, could it be a Kwin problem?
Other than that I can't really help sorry, maybe other Intel gfx users can.

Hi,
seems which kde 4.5 rc2 have blacklisted some desktop effects in a driver/mesa combination in previous kde no notifications appeared about desktop effects
because in my intel 945GME cannot activate: Blur and Magic Lamp, and get note about this in ~.xsession-errors
but after enabled the option disable functionality checks in the advanced tab the above two effects are enabled and working

Thanks. That restored my functionality.
Curiously, I have long since observed this setting and never enabled it and everything worked fine. Now I have to enable it to get everything to work fine.

seems which the blacklist got in effect from kde 4.5 rc2 (maybe I'm wrong) to have Desktop Effects enabled in majority of machines.
because in KDE 4.4.90 (was it RC1? ) that setting was disabled too in my case and no notifications about disabled Desktop Effects appeared, well in 4.4.90 kwin crashed two or three times by day when using Desktop Grid and sometimes the Blur Effect was disabled upon kwin restart
but in 4.4.92 after two hours no kwin crashes and my desktop effects are working perfectly.

Upstream added new tests for individual effects to disable the effects which cause most trouble for cards on which they can cause trouble.
