nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

Kate not installed by default on Fedora 16
by Sonic
Hi..
I just found out that Kate was not installed by default on Fedora 16
even though I had selected 'KDE Software Development' during
installation. KDevelop is installed, but not Kate.
Was this a concious decision or a mistake?

tracker in KDE
by Martin (KDE)
Hallo
Yesterday I upgraded from F15 to F16. This went smoothly (almost) but
after the restart there were ugly processes running and tacking much of
the CPU power: tracker-*
AFAIK these processes are the "nepomuk" part of gnome and I don't need
them. Why are the tracker processes activated in a typical KDE environment?

KMail2
by Timothy Murphy
Is anybody using KMail2, or has everyone given up on it?
I've asked several questions about it,
eg I cannot create top-level folders,
there are curious sub-folders created when migrating from KMail,
the Tools=>Find Messages facility does not seem to work.
I just wondered if the reason I haven't had any responses
is that everyone has gone back to the previous version of KMail?

f16/kde48 repo
by Rex Dieter
With kde-4.8.0 to be officially released any minute/day now, and to
forestall the deluge of questions like
* How do I get kde-4.8.x for f16
* When will kde-4.8.x be released for f16
and help get things tested, I threw together a (hopefully temporary)
backports repo,
http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/rdieter/kde48/
similar to what we did with f15/kde47
It contains just the minimal builds needed to get up and running with
kde-4.8.0 (as opposed to kde-unstable repo that has other stuff like
calligra).
Hopefully, this will lower the bar and make it easier to use, and get
more folks using and testing it. Oh, and to answer question 2 above,
well just have to wait and see how testing goes. Please do give feedback.
Enjoy.

Downgrading KDEPIM
by John Aldrich
Can I add the F15 repos and downgrade KMail? I REALLY don't like KMail 2. It's
slower than molasses at the North Pole in January and it's a huge resource hog
to boot. I absolutely HATE the new version and if I can't go back to a version
that works, I'll have to find a new email client! :(

Reboot and kmail
by Jan Simonson
Hello,
A year ago I tried to install Fedora 14 on a machine with a Gigabyte GA-EP45-
DS4P motherboard using the hardware RAID0. It turned out to be impossible as
the raid volume was not recognised by the installer, so I used software raid
instead and everything worked very well until upgrading to F16 a month ago.
After the upgrade only one of the disks belonging to my /home raid volume was
used, but changing disk after each reboot. Not a good situation!
As I had a fresh backup I wiped my disks and created a RAID0 disk in hardware
once again. This time it was recognised by the F16 installer and the install
went smoothly. But there is one remaining problem: Each time I try to reboot
or shutdown the system hangs with the following messages on screen:
Sending SIGKILL to remaining processes...
Unmounting file systems.
Unmounted /sys/fs/fuse/connections.
Unmounted /var/lib/nfs/rpc-pipefs.
Unmounted /sys/kernel/security.
Unmounted /sys/kernel/debug.
Unmounted /dev/hugepages.
Unmounted /dev/mqueue.
Unmounted /sys/kernel/config.
and then it hangs forever and I have to kill with the powerswitch. On a
laptop, also with a fresh F16, there is no such problem. Both installs are
x86_64.
Does anybody know if this has something to do with the RAID? Where shall I
start looking for the problem?
I also switched to KMail2 at the same time. Having heared of many problems I
had archived all my mail (many thousand mails) in KMail1 beforehand and then
made a new install and configuration in KMail2. Then I imported the mails into
the newly created folders and have now used KMail2 daily with only minor
problems. It's rather slow when downloading many messages from a POP3 server
and there are some chrashes when deleting a html-message directly after
loading external pictures. But it's easy to work around and 4.8 might solve
it.
So if you have many problems with KMail2 and have migrated, it might be worth
it to consider making a fresh install.
Regards
Jan

Digital clock widget
by Emmett Culley
Since upgrading to Fedora 16 I notice that the popup calendar in the digital clock widget has event information, including a new panel to the right with an event list. That would be nice, except it cannot be turned off.
Plus I have no idea where the "event" are defined, or why some of the dates in the calendar have a box around them. Unchecking "Display Events" in the configuration dialog has no effect.
My system is up to date at 4.7.4-1

Missing next boot option
by Łukasz Redynk
Hi
I'm using up-to-date Fedora 16 x86_64 KDE spin (from fresh install, not
upgrade) and recently I've discover, that 'boot to other os' option is
missing. I've got proper configured 'grub2' in 'System Settings -> Login
Screen', also I've added 'GDUB_DEFAULT=saved' to /etc/default/grub, but
there's no 'arrow' near 'reboot button'. Anybody tried to solve that issue?
