Distribution list for KMail/Kontact
by Timothy Murphy
I'd like to create (and use) a Distribution List.
My setup is slightly complicated, though not I think unusual.
I'm actually running IMAP to access email on my server
from my laptop.
I am running Fedora-13 on my laptop, with kdepim-4.4.4,
but am running CentOS-5.5 on my server, with kdepim-3.5.4.
I see that in KMail on my laptop,
Folder=>Mailing List Management is greyed-out.
At the same time, Message=>New Message to Mailing-list
is not greyed-out, though clicking on it just seems to bring up
the standard New Message window.
Is there actually any way of setting up a distribution list
within this setup?
If not, could I run mailman or a similar distribution list program
on my server, given that I am not running a mail server?
Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.

kdepim (again. sorry.)
by Rolf Offermanns
Hi All,
I lost track in the kdepim discussions.
Is is possible to try the akonadi based kmail(2?) or not. I have
kdepimlibs-4.4.92 and kdepim-libs-4.4.5 installed. But there is only one
kdepim(-4.4.5) package. Which libs will be used? Is this already the
"new" kmail?
I am really confused.
Thanks,
Rolf

Some more info -
Apparently Qt on this machine puts screen 0 on the right and screen 1 on
the left (and primaryScreen() is 0). kdm_greet displays the login panel on
screen 0 by default. I changed GreeterScreen in /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc to -1 to
put it on the left, and it appeared on the CRT, so I have a workaround.
kde/qt from kde-unstable behaves the same.

cmake guideline updates
by Kalev Lember
Hello,
Fedora KDE packaging guidelines have evolved over time, but official
Fedora cmake guidelines [1] are still the same that were originally
accepted in 2007.
I would like to propose a few changes to the example cmake spec file to
bring it more in line with KDE spec files:
%build
-%cmake .
-make VERBOSE=1 %{?_smp_mflags}
+mkdir -p %{_target_platform}
+pushd %{_target_platform}
+%{cmake} ..
+popd
+
+make %{?_smp_mflags} -C %{_target_platform}
%install
rm -rf $RPM_BUILD_ROOT
-make install DESTDIR=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT
+make install DESTDIR=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT -C %{_target_platform}
%check
-ctest
+make test -C %{_target_platform}
A few packages [2] [3] have recently had problems with the default
-DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS:BOOL=ON which is part of %cmake macro. Those
packages didn't pass neither SHARED nor STATIC arguments to
add_library() call and relied on the cmake usual default to produce
static libraries. Those static libraries weren't meant to be installed;
they were just used as "convenience" libraries during the build which
would be statically linked into the final executable.
However, if BUILD_SHARED_LIBS is defined, we get unversioned shared
libraries instead of "convenience" libraries. Packagers often don't know
what to do with such unversioned libraries.
Perhaps it'd be better to completely remove -DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS:BOOL=ON
from the default %cmake macro? I would imagine that most (all?)
libraries which are meant to be actually used as shared libraries
contain explicit add_library(... SHARED) and set_target_properties(...
PROPERTIES VERSION ... SOVERSION ...) calls, but maybe that's not how it
is. Any thoughts whether removing BUILD_SHARED_LIBS=ON would break
existing packages?
Anything else in the guidelines which needs discussion?

yum update problems
by Rolf Offermanns
Hi All,
I just tried to "yum update" my system and got the following error:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[...]
Error: Package: 7:kdenetwork-4.4.92-1.fc13.x86_64 (kde-unstable)
Requires: libmsn.so.0.3()(64bit)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
1:dbus-libs-1.2.24-1.fc13.1.x86_64 is a duplicate with 1:dbus-libs-1.2.24-1.fc13.i686
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any hints?
Thanks,
Rolf

watch for a window to appear
by Dj YB
Hello,
there is a java program that gives me a really hard time, it spawns warning
messages all the time (making it unusable)
I tried to find a way to disable the warning messages but failed, so I am
trying to find another way.
I want to close the warning window as it is created.
I got the window name now all I need is to trigger that "close window" when
the window appear.
using kde 4.4.4 compiz 0.8.6
any suggestions, tips, are welcome.
thanks,
YB.

Since recent updates, kaffeine is not preventing screen locking. This is

Who the hell is rnovacek?
by Radek Novacek
Hello fedora-kde,
my name is Radek Nováček and I would like to inform you, that you will see me
more often around KDE things in Fedora.
Few words about myself - I'm Red Hat employee (part time) and master degree
student (Informatics at Brno University of Technology). I'm responsible (with
other folks) for polkit-qt and polkit-kde things.
And what will I do? What will be needed for better fedora + kde experience ;)
I already took watchbugzilla and watchcommits for most kde packages and maybe
I will ask for commit rights when needed.
So, feel free to contact me if you have more questions or some tasks for me.

Yes, there are few of us: me, jreznik, than and ltinkl. But KDE is not our only task to do.

Out of curiosity: Are there other Red Hat employees who do KDE-related work?
I've always seen Red Hat are solely focused on GNOME and everything KDE-
related in Fedora as pure community effort.
