Regional T-Shirt designs

I saw Vinz on identi.ca post this: http://identi.ca/conversation/64284072#notice-65037659 He has done some German Fedora T-shirt designs: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Vinz/Projects#De-Shirts These are based on designs that Tatica did: http://tatica.fedorapeople.org/Fedora_Artwork/Tshirts/franelas3.png I think these are wonderful! I think we should create a wiki page for them and link it to http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/T-Shirt. What we need for each T-shirt: - PNG preview - Specs (how many colors, what color shirt) - Print-ready artwork (PDF is best for printers I think) - Sources for artwork I also think there's some old event-specific T-shirt designs on the main T-shirt page that we should retire similarly to the old Fedora freedom | infinity | voice posters. What do you think? I'll go ahead and do the work if folks agree it should be done. ~m

Hi folks, A long time ago before the four f's (freedom, friends, features, first) the slogan for Fedora was "infinity, freedom, voice". We have some old posters with this old slogan available here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/MarketingCollateral#Posters Do you think it's time to retire them by moving them off the wiki, and posting some of our newer four F's designs? ~m

Earlier today I found a dent (can't remember who it was from, possibly tatica) about advertising banners on Fedora and wrote a comment on one and how I found it to be questionable if it would actually help rather than hurt our cause. @tante (who's opinion I generally respect a lot) send me this blog post in reply: http://the-gay-bar.com/2011/02/20/wrong/ <http://the-gay-bar.com/2011/02/20/wrong/>To be clear: I am not trying to stir up controversy, I just thought it was fair if I passed this along as I agree with him on the main points. New year, new advertising campaign?

Hola people! As several of you may know, today I made a couple of posters to fill a ticket asking for 4 foundations artwork. After receive some complains (really few, but we as Fedora listen to everyone) about the message that we are sending I think that is a good idea to have a small (but intense) thread about "what" we can do to have a more powerful and -clear- message that we can use this new year. Mo and Fab where chatting about how impressive are marketing ads from companies like Apple and others, and they also talk about what they show as product. I think that is a good idea to try to come up with a solid marketing strategy this year, not only to increase our consolidation as artwork/Marketing team; but also to help us recruit not only more users, but also more contributors. We want users to choose fedora because "what we are and what we do", not because we are winning money. Even so, we want more people to know about foss benefits. Reading just a little, there are several list with the best campaigns [1], but the ones I found interesting were: * McDonald's, "You deserve a break today", Needham, Harper & Steers, 1971 * U.S. Army, "Be all that you can be", N.W. Ayer & Son, 1981 * Saturn, "A different kind of company, A different kind of car.", Hal Riney & Partners, 1989 * Polaroid, "It's so simple", Doyle Dane Bernbach, 1977 Now, What made me focus on this ones? They are worldwide known. Being a non_en speaker (you can know by my terrible english) We should be thinking in an _easy, short and consistent between languages_ slogan that defines Fedora. Also, as artwork team i think is not a bad idea to use some ideas to take advantage and to try out a strong campaign this year (probably will take us a couple of months to develop it and put it in production a couple more of months) to recruit those "already new users" and turn them into real contributors. One of the problems I see (don't know if is only LATAM or if this is happening in other regions) is that people come to events to know about $distro , install their pc's, and become users; considering them as a 100% of new candidates, only a 20-30% become contributors, and another 5-10% quit after their 1st year. So.. the real question after this huge and with bad grammatical mail is: Do we, as design-marketing team can do an advertising campaign to get more help and spread even more Fedora? If anyone has ads campaigns that can be examples (of good and bad stuff) or ideas, pls let me (us) know about them :) See ya! F15 Supplemental Wallpaper ========================== * We went through all the various Linux/FLOSS related groups on Deviant Art and advertised our F15 supplemental wallpaper process to them in hopes of getting more submissions. * Tatica updated the guidelines for the Flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/fedora-wallpapers/) to make clear we need CC-BY-SA and mizmo wrote a note to one of the submitters who hadn't CC'ed his work Image Annotation App ===================== * We've made progress on our image annotation app Fedora hosting request (https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/2580) We have a public test server and root access to install it. We'll need to create our own backups. Emichan has some pending security fixes to apply in git before we set it up.
