The default theme for F12
by Matthias Clasen
Hey all,
we've been discussing the idea of changing the default GTK+/Metacity
theme in F12. Nodoka has been the default for a while, and it seems to
undergo a major rework now ( http://mso-chronicles.blogspot.com/ ).
We don't want to do a radical visual change, though. The idea is to go
back to the upstream default, Clearlooks.
Let me know what you think.
I'd like to make this change for the alpha.

Hi,
My name is Marty, 16 years old and a part-time graphic design as hobby and
work. Experiences so far in Graphical design are mostly banners, posters,
flyers, wallpapers and webdesign. But I will try everything that is new,
fresh and innovative to extend my experiences even further. I will except
any kind of graphical request except icons, themes and widgets.

Feedback for backgrounds
by Steven Moix
Hello all,
As Nicu requested on his blog [1], I'm providing my very own personal
feedback about the wallpapers displayed on [2]. I'll give my top 5 (in
no particular order) with comments:
* Tatica's "four foundations mosaic" has a clean design, not too
overloaded. It's one of my favourite designs, but it has one flaw: it's
a great but pretty generic wallpaper when it comes to the Constantine theme.
* Tatica's "Pruebas" design is great, the buildings take a bit too much
space but well, it's an alpha design. It fits the Constantine theme very
well.
* Samuele's "4Flowers" is clean, simple and beautiful. It should be a
bit more "Fedora blue" IMO.
* Nicu/Mo's Underwater mosaic designs are the most generic (in a good
sense) and best design ideas IMO. They fit an oriental theme, they fit
the Fedora colours and are not too overloaded.
* Jayme Ayre's blue Constantine also has a great potential. It fits the
Fedora colours, it's not too overloaded but it might have a
political/religious connotation?
I didn't chose most of the other themes for one simple reason: too
overloaded.
So here you go...my 2 cents as a standard user.

fedora logo modification for stainless steel plate laser
by Simon Wesp
Hi all,
I'm definitly not a designer like you guys. I'm a technician.
I love the fedora logo and I thought i can laser the logo on little stainless
steel plates.
WNr. 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10), AISI 304 (V2A)
material thickness between 5 and 15 mm
extra fine polished, for a noble look
I tried to import an svg. the problem is that this wouldn't be conform to my
metal laser machine (and other major laser-machines which is used in this
industry sector). i can import it, but i will miss my 0-polyline and i can't
define one or import one from svg.
my laser will cut a square in the size i resized the logo.
another problem is that there is no seperation of "f" and "8" so the middle
plates of 8 will fall out and i have 3 pieces (2 middleplates and the
mainplate).
So I had to design my own from scratch, because I have a these problems with
the original logo.
This is my first try and I draw it in less than 5 minutes.
fedora has (principally) a very easy logo
http://cassmodiah.fedorapeople.org/fedora_cad001.png
The center of the logo is the center of the "f-cross"
- outer circle
o radius 125mm
o radius on the round edge 25mm
- inner circles f/8
o inner radius 35mm
o outer radius 50mm
o flat cutting is 15mm *
o radius on round edges are 5mm/each (of course)
- the seperation (f/8)
o radius 7.5mm
0 distance between circle centers are 15mm *
* I selected 15mm for the minimum distance of all laser-cuts, because it would
be more exact. the distance between the cuts should't be less than the
material thickness. btw this would make the plate logo more stable. (it can
be fallen down or you can try to press the inner-plates out with your
fingers, you will fail... :)
My only problem is:
You can recognize: "this is the fedora-logo."
but it hasn't the same aspect ratio and the strong separation (to keep the
middle in it).
I'm sure I would tresspass against the guidelines, if I will laser this
on a stainless steel plate :-( , or not?

Design + Marketing schedules: Synced!
by Mel Chua
Design and Marketing folks: just a heads-up so you know the stuff that
the two groups will be working on together for this release cycle - Mo
and I just froze the milestone dates for things the two teams will be
collaborating on (our version is at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_F12_schedule). Here are the
relevant parts for y'all on what Marketing is going to deliver for Design...
Select a release slogan 2009-09-17 Make sure Design has the release
slogan so they can start designing.
Final release slogan is ready for websites/design 2009-09-17 Marketing
creates this, influenced by the Design themes/wallpaper/etc. for the
release. The slogan then (circularly?) affects the Design team's release
button/banner for the website. Need to make sure this lines up with
Design and Website's dates. This date is a start date; the end date
needs to be set in conjunction with Design.
(For Marketing's reference...)
Groups we (Marketing) have synced with: Websites, Design
Groups left to sync with: Docs, Ambassadors, News
...that is all. Thanks for your time!

Wallpaper proposal: mosaic glow
by Máirín Duffy
Hi,
First of all, I am completely floored by the quality of submission we've
been getting for F12, especially early today. :) I guess deadlines do
help! I think you folks have really taken this to the next level, which
is great!
I put together a quick proposal based on Nicu's photoshoot of the
mosaics in Bucharest. Actually it's sort of similar to the F6 wallpaper,
which I realized afterwards. :( But maybe it would be a good
supplementary wallpaper. Here it is:
https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/0/0b/Fedora12_mosaic-glow_mo.png
The xcf.gz source is uploading to mediawiki right now (same file name,
replace png with xcf.gz), but it might stall, if it does I'll put it up
on my Fedora People page.

Re: [Design-team] Proposal for wallpaper to Constantine
by Storari Samuele
Hi Guys
This is another idea I'm workin' on.
4 Horses of 4 F Theme
I think about horses 'cause in roman time they were so diffused and not only a transport, but as a sign of power for the nobilities.
Like a lot of leader statues riding an horse in many squares.

These are only sketches to show my idea and have some feedback, take a look
