are you waiting for a reimbursement?
by Max Spevack
Hi Ambassadors,
I know that there are several people who are waiting on me for
reimbursements from September, including David Nalley, the Fedora-fr
guys, the OpenExpo guys, and Dimitris from FUDCon.
I want to let you know that we'll be getting that all sorted out in the
next week and a half. Thanks for your patience -- the past few weeks
have been spent getting the FUDCon bills paid, but once October 1 hits,
I'll be able to pay back all the other Ambassadors and community members
who are waiting.
If you haven't already collected up your receipts, I recommend that you
do so. It will make things so much easier!

SFD2008 - Nicaragua
by Neville A. Cross
Hello,
Just a short notice to report the SFD2008 celebration at Nicaragua [1].
We gather around 1,300 person for the whole event, whit a
participation of up to 750 at the conference room. At the conference
room was a distribution of material including a folder with a CD with
Open Source Software and slide of the conferences. It also included
other relevant information. We manage to distribute 500 sheets (logos
printed on colors) with information about Fedora Project and the local
Fedora team in those folders.
This event was coordinated by the Nicargua's Linux User Gruop, and we
have different distros represented in this event. But because of my
involvement all the computers that were borrowed from our venue, the
Universidad Centroamericana[2], were all running fedora. This was 40
pc at the workshops, 16 pc at the game contest area, 6 pc for
registrations and the pc at the conference hall. All the computer
running games had fedora stickers on the border of the monitor.
Fedora Installs were number two, just behind openSUSE. We sold 45
discs of fedora 9 and 15 discs fedora game spin (about US $1.5 each to
regain founds for more disc and pamphlets). The only downside was the
t-shirt sale. We only were able to sold one, mostly due shortage of
help on the "market place". Any way we had almost 50 t-shirt ready for
next event.
For more info regarding the whole event, and not the Fedora highliths
you can see the preliminary report [3]
I am looking forward for include Nicaraguan events on the next budget,
but by now we will focus on the F10 release party. We are planing what
we can manage with our own resources, and we will be posting shortly
when we secure a venue for the F10 release party.

Software Freedom Day 2008 (Philippines)
by Heherson Pagcaliwagan
I was waiting for Ma'am Magie to post the pics of our recently concluded SFD
celebration but since she's still probably recuperating from the event, let
me, in her stead, report what happened last Saturday at the National
Computer Center here in Quezon City.
Official registration was supposed to start 8:30 AM but when I passed by the
venue around 7:30AM on my way to my office, students were already milling
around the complex and a provincial bus was already parked beside the venue.
Talk about being early! When I returned around 8:45AM, the place was already
packed and Ma'am Magie was already going on circles :)
I was designated as the booth man by virtue of seniority :D *(Truth be told,
Ma'am Magie was busy organizing the whole event while Sir Engels was giving
speeches)*. The Fedora booth consisted of a tarpaulin, flyers, two LiveUSB
Station posters and my office laptop featuring Fedora 9. I originally
planned to bring my Asus eee loaded with eeedora to the event but I was
locked out of our office with no keys -- stupid me. A friend later took pity
on me and sent for his two laptops *(both of which are Windows)* and
together we burned away those USB sticks.
Apart from burning LiveUSBs, I gave away flyers, cajoled SFD-goers to try
Fedora 9 using my laptop, gave impromptu talks about the merit of Fedora and
its difference with other Linux distributions (most of the time - Ubuntu),
met students, teachers and other professionals and had a blast the whole
time. Talking particularly with the kids made me feel like a rock star :)
The major drawer of our booth was ceratinly the LiveUSB creation. It would
have been FreeMedia but early on, we have decided to do away with the
distribution of DVDs and LiveCDs because that would entail spending money we
don't really have much of. What meager funds we have scrapped together were
funneled into the whole event. Either way, we had registered around 50
individuals who still wanted to hear more about the Fedora Project and
possibly contribute themselves. These included teachers who want their
students contribute as ambassadors and/or developers, students who wanted to
make a case study in the use of Fedora and professionals who are interested
in holding seminars/trainings in deploying Fedora in their line of work.

Great to hear from you Varun,
I have sent 31 CDs of Fedora to Rajan. Hope he can help as he is from
himanchal pradesh too.
Rajan please help them.
About Fedora T-Shirts, you must contact the Fedora ambassadors. If you
want me to send you, I can but, I can't provide them for free as we sell
them in order to sustain our group.
If something I can do. I will really be happy.
Tushar.
