Organizing a Fedora Women Day 2017 event
by Jona Azizaj
Hello ambassadors,
Fedora Women Day (FWD) is a day of celebration dedicated to the female
contributors of the Fedora Project. During this day of celebration, local
communities around the world will gather to present the accomplishments of
the women that are part of the Fedora Project and thank them. FWD is a
great chance to promote the participation of more women, bring together
contributors and raise awareness about the gender gap in tech communities.
*When and where*
This year FWD is planned to be organized during September. Since it is
difficult to determine a specific date for an event like this, it is up to
the local communities to pick the most appropriate date for them during the
month of September.
*Are you interested in organizing Fedora Women Day?*
If you would like to organize a FWD event in your region, there is more
information about event organizing on our wiki page
<https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Women_Day_2017>. It is
important to *confirm
your participation* as an organizer *by August 20th 2017*. There are a few
guidelines to help you put together an event, such as agenda ideas and
planning points for you to use. A FWD event also does not have to be in a
physical place either. You can also participate remotely with one of the
events happening in September via audio/video call.
If you have any question feel free to ask us :)
Thank you,
Jona

Open Source Summit Europe is looking for event owner
by Jiří Eischmann
Hi,
I was supposed to organize a Fedora presence at Open Source Summit
Europe (formerly LinuxCon) in Prague on Oct 23-26, but I've got an
important training at work at that week and can't participate.
We've always been present at European LinuxCons and it'd be a pity if
we weren't there this year. Brian (CC'ed) would like us to be part of
the Red Hat booth.
We need someone who will take over the ownership of the event, organize
ppl, content of the booth, accommodation, travels etc. We should have 3
booth personnel (not necessarily ambassadors) there.
Any volunteers?

Open Source Summit in Los Angeles
by Perry Rivera
Hi all:
Just wanted to check Los Angeles ambassador and vicinity ambassador availabilities for an LA event here:
https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-source-summit-north-americ...
Open Source Summit in Los Angeles, September 11-14.
We just heard back from the Linux Foundation and they would love to have us if we are available.
If you could let me know by 8/15 (or sooner!) if you would be able to ambassador for this event. If there's enough interest, we can then set up an event page. We'd need a minimum of 2 people.
Please do not book any travel/accommodations at this time.
Thank you,
Perry Rivera

I would like to leave temporarily
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi
I would like to leave temporaily the community - because of family and
money issues are appeared - and I would like to transfer all my fedora
activity rights. Lets hope that clouds are going away fast, and I can
return and can continue. If any issue appears in l10n mail to Balazs Meskó (
meskobalazs(a)gmail.com), and any HU ambassador issue to Gergely Rakosi (
rgeri77(a)fedoraproject.org) I know that he is not a mentor, but I try to
solve my personal things, and rearrange. Please redirect all things to
them, and let's hope the best progress - approx for 3 months...
Thank you for understanding.
Zoltan

Open Source India 2017
by Joerg Simon
Dear Fellows,
i just booked my flight to attend and speak at the Open Source India
2017 - October 13-14.
I would be happy see the Indian Fedora Community and my indian friends
from the null community attending, if you can, please join me ;) - and
if not please spread the word!
According to the planning i am invited to give a keynote and one
technical session.
The Keynote Topic will be an easy one - as my very first talk outside
Germany was in Bangalore at the Nimhans Convention Center in 2009 during
foss.in along with the Fedora Track Day - now 9 years later i will use
the opportunity to wrap up what happened since then with my activities
with Fedora, ISECOM and null - what we achieved and how it helped Open
Source and Open Standards in general and how it helped in the real world.
In my technical session i have planned to demonstrate how open standards
like the Risk Assessment Value from ISECOM´s Open Source Security
Testing Methodology Manual, can be a perfect addition to the proprietary
Thread Modelling, developed by vendors - i will demonstrate technical
examples along with Fedora Security Lab - and also real world examples.
As i already traveled to india on fedora budget this year - this time
the Trip is kindly supported by the Conference Organizers and out of my
"business"pocket ;)
Open Source India is scheduled for October 13-14. The 14th edition of
Asia's largest open source convention is taking place at NIMHANS
Convention Centre in Bengaluru.
The website has all the information you need
https://opensourceindia.in/osidays/
cheers Joerg
p.s. already confirmed tracks are
Cloud and Big Data
Cyber Security Day
Open Source and You (Success Stories)
Open Stack India (mini-conference)
Application Development
Container Day
Database Day
Open Source in IOT
