[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Event: Strasbourg (date partly finalised)
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hai there,
I have good news and maybe bad news.
Its Still fresh.
First as long awaited here in Strasbourg, France there will be an
"open source" day http://strasbourg.linuxfr.org/jl4/index on the 23-25
June 2006. This event will be intended as I mentioned in
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents to promote open source
softwares and linux.
If somebody is motivated to make a conference about fedora, do inform
me. Hence you will become the guest of our lug. We ( the lug members )
are looking forward to invite lecturers and to pay their journey and
hotel too. This needs to be confirmed. The money required to host the
lecturers will be from either paid entrance or companies paying for
the booth.
to rent a booth for fedora, we have to pay. Price will be communicated
later. There are also talks about free booth for associations. But
nothing yet confirmed.
Its possible to sell Fedora t-shirts or other goodies for fund
raising. But in this case, we must rent a booth for Fedora.
Now comes the "maybe" bad news:
this scheduled date for the event interfere badly with two of MY
private life things:
1. I have already booked two tickets (my gf and I) to Mauritius.
2. my contract with the hostel ends in the beginning of June and
somebody will be occupying my actual room.
so meanwhile send your comments, queries or any other proposals :)
regards,
Chitlesh GOORAH

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] First Fedora-day in The Netherlands
by Thijs Hulshof
Hi,
Last Saturday the first Fedora-meeting in The Netherlands took place, it was
very nice. About 25 people came to the event, as expected. The biggest part
of the visitors was just started with Fedora Core, or wanted to start. That
was exactly the public were the event was meant for.
I'll definitely organize a Linux / Fedora-event again in the future ! Next
time I'll maybe place a small advertisement in the local newspaper to reach
more interested people.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] FOSDEM 2006 Report
by Thomas Canniot
Hi everybody, FOSDEM is over, here is my report ! :)
FOSDEM was held the 25 and 26th of February in Brussels (in Belgium).
Even if it is a developper event, many users were there as well asking
many questions about free software in general.
We were four speaking for Fedora on the booth: Frederic Hornain (from
Belgium), Andreas Kupfer (from Germany), Matthias Saou (from France,
Canada and Spain), and myself Thomas Canniot (from France). We had no
presentation in any auditorium.
Many people came to talk about Fedora Core and asked some questions
about it. We can retain that few questions were still about our
relationship with Red Hat. Others asked whether Fedora Core was a new
distro, because they haven't heard of it before. Maybe Frederic will add
some comments on this discussion.
I could also give the flyers we made this week but I didn't that FOSDEM
visitors mostly speak English however, the flyers were in French (as
Belgium is a French speaking Country). So I really need to translate
them into English.
For my part, I *only* came on Sunday, with my computer with FC5T3 on
it. Most of users were very interested with the next release and I was
proud to show them that FC5 is going to be a great one. We had only good
feedbacks for Pirut and Pup. Some users were also very interested in the
system-config-control package. Some of them asked questions about the
new logo, and some of them disliked it. But, be relieved, a majority of
people told that the new artwork was good stuff!
I also took advantage of the booth to stick handouts everywhere
written "Kadischi show every hour!" on them, as I was suggested to do so
in the last thursday meeting. This worked fantasticaly! As kadischi is
not very known yet, many users came and asked "What is Kadischi show?".
As they had a good question, we had a good answer :) Many people wanted
to *see* Kadischi running, i.e building the livecd, and I built about 6
livcds on the whole day (I arrived at 9.30am and left at 5pm - with
lunchtime of an hour or so). They were also very interested in the
customization it allows. Some features were asked as well about it and I
will contact Chitlesh Goorah for it. Showing Kadischi there was more
than successful.
Photos of the booth and the event in general are available from:
http://mrtomlinux.multiply.com/photos/album/5
Fedora Booth is shwon in the 9 first photos.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Re: Red Hat offers Linux eye candy alternative
by Alex
Sorry for cross-posting guys :)
Thank you for forwarding the article Peter. However, the author got at
least the names of the project and the distro all wrong--which
indicates that he has no clear picture of the relationship between
Fedora and Red Hat.
Will someone from the Ambassadors maybe contact the author and correct him?

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Presenting a LiveCD in public for the First time
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hai there,
Our ambassador ThomasCanniot will present for the first time in public
a Fedora Live CD build by Kadischi.
Any livecd made by Kadischi when boots does not show any with respect
to Fedora.
Ive created a page with my screenshots and texts which I propose to
integrate in within the livecd.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Kadischi/Development/boot
have a look
suggestions are welcome.
RahulSundaram suggested
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=182985
Ive already did the neccessary.
if the text can be enhanced somehow, do post something to the list.
by the way in a 800x600 resolution, we can not add much info per page.
Why only 5 F-keys?
I found it kewl to add only 5 F-keys.
5 F-keys 5 FC Versions.
concerning a splash.lss, I failed to make a proper one. if you look at
the right hand top corner of the first screenshot you will see a
broken blue spot. This is my broken splash.lss
if anyone wants to create one for Fedora, do send it to me. Ill add
it. Of course if its related to the Fedora Core 5 theme.
Maybe the FedoraArtwork department can help me with it.
The last screenshot is a 1024x768 resolution (16 bit) screen.

Review upcoming events
1.1
There was a discussion on the list about whether it makes sense to
always discuss the events first events take up a lot of time
***lxmaier supports the idea that attending and organizing events in
the main purpose of this group
GeroldKa: maybe it's a good thing to be better prepared from the
owners, to have the best effort for all and a speedy update of the
event themselves
as nobody present seemed to be in favour of moving the events to the
end, the Schedule order will remain unchanged.
1.2

Status: Reserved Fedora Stand, Thomas emailed FredericHornain and the
booth is reserved, we have DVDs and tshirts
Fred will bring his computer and Thomas will demo FC5T3
The owners are working with ChitleshGoorah for a handout to give with the DVDs
A livecd might be also an option.
StillBob: having F4 and FC5T3 side by side might be interesting to visitors
lxmaier: you might want to find a microphone and an amp and talk to
your demo. you schedule a live demo at say every even hour, and you
make an on-the-booth presentation, so that people can gather at the
scheduled times. usually this draws a considerable crowd. you might
want to combine it with a short presentation from the slides available
online
1.4

JoseTarazona has been talking with people to get two PCs for the stand
Jose would like to have a live videoconference between 12:00 and 18:00
GMT – 5:00. A prerecorded video session could be useful, but the Q&A
section will be missing this way. but it will be appreciated anyway.
Jose also wants to know if there is any chance to receive some DVDs
and some T-Shirts?
lxmaier: we might be able to ship freshly-burned FC5 DVDs to
JoseTarazona if we are EXTREMELY lucky

May 15-16, 2006 LinuxWorld Italy 2006 Milan, Italy - LinuxWorld Italy
AndreaMaurizioGnerre Andrea has contacted the organization of the
event. They moved to a sponsorized event format. I have prices for
that if anybody is interested.
FrancescoUgolini: i don't know if i'm avaiable—i will find out in the
first week of march
item 2
FedoraLibraries Owner: ChitleshGoorah
ChitleshGoorah: Each week, Im sending a reminder in the list to push
things forwards. Personnaly the SC might force things forward, since
FC5 is coming out soon.
Let's integrate Fedora in the daily life of everyone. This might be a
way to make them aware of fedora. FedoraLibraries needs a Fedora Live
CD. ChitleshGoorah will talk with gredgek later to move things in that
perspective. ChitleshGoorah is going to FUDCon Wiesbaden depending on
his practical class schedule
ChitleshGoorah: next week, Ill talk with the directory of my
university if he can push things for me too
lxmaier: okay, so ChitleshGoorah, what do we need to do to get ISBN
and ISSN codes for the CDs and DVDs?
kushal: If you wish to obtain an ISBN, you should contact the national
or regional ISBN agency in your own country. Presently, more than 160
countries or territories are official ISBN members.
greendisease: i can work on that. i think the filing fee is 250 USD.
you get a lot of 20 codes, and then the issn numbers work for a series
tchung: shoudn't Fedora Foundation file ISBN for Fedora DVD or CDs media
*** lxmaier strongly agrees
***gregdek wonders if we should be considering Lulu for this...
gregdek will ask Mr. Hogan from Lulu what he knows about ISBN numbers.
ChitleshGoorah and greendesease will pursue the project further if
gregdek hooked him up with Lulu people.
item 3
Schwag pipeline Owner: AlexMaier / GregDeKoenigsberg
Need to make sure that the schwag pipeline is functional. This is
separate from the actual stuff we send; this is just making sure that
the stuff we send actually gets to the places it needs to go.
gregdek has cost estimates for the US store. this means that we can
start the production soon, and request to replicate the stores in EMEA
and APAC.
then we will be able to give out "credits" to some ambassadors, like
when they attend events, so they can stock up on schwag. We need to
determine policy and procedure first, but we expect to have both kits
and vouchers.
item 4
Funding for attendance
lxmaier: here we have a kind of unwritten policy: if an ambassador
wants money to attend and/or run an event, they will write an email to
one or all of FAMSCO (Fedora AMbassadors Steering COmmittee) members,
who will then discuss and approve the expense ...or not. for the
upcoming quarter (march-may 2006) we are still waiting for a budget
approval from red hat. as soon as the budget is approved, gregdek will
report to the list.
tchung: can any ambassadors can write for famsco-list ?
lxmaier: tchung: they can write, but i will have to approve for the
message to go through
item 5
Presentations for Ambassadors
We need to provide Ambassadors with some slide decks for various
presentations. We should probably aggregate the ones we already have
and make them available. We should also figure out our policy for
licensing these presentations!
ChitleshGoorah: as MrTom said, we are working on a one-page flyer in
French. at the same time we will create an updated one for FC5
ChitleshGoorah is creating a OOo Impress document concerning Kadischi.
Hence ambassadors can spread the word.
gregdek: Have folks seen the presentation I uploaded from FUDCon
Delhi? puneet_batura can tell you how it went... You can find it at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon/FUDConDelhi2006
FrancescoUgolini: due to work prblem in the past week i could
translate only two chapter of fedora install guide, now, i've
translated 6 chapters, i think i will able to complete all, if i
haven't any problem, in two weeks.
greendisease: would like to perhaps set up an asterisk server, so we
could do Ambassadors meeting that way. he will post to the list to
introuduce the idea for discussion.
nman64: We cannot preclude people that might not have adequate
technologies. IRC is already a problem for a few people.
lxmaier: i think asterisk is a good idea--to try at least once and see
how it goes
greendisease: yeah, it should be fairly straightforward and we can
build on success if it works out
Next meeting: 2006-03-02 1400 UTC

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Self-Introduction: Pawel Sadowski
by Pawel Sadowski
Hi,
My name is Pawel Sadowski (aka McGiwer) and I'm a Fedora Ambassador in
Poland. I'm 18 years old and I'm studying at high school. I'm also
translating Fedora Core Release Notes to Polish and I'm a moderator on
www.fedora.pl (Polish site and support forum). My adventure with Linux
has begun with Red Hat Linux 9, and then I heard about Fedora Core (that
was FC2). Since then, I've used only Fedora Core and I just love this
system :)

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] meeting for all Ambassadors
by Gerold
Hi all,
in the meeting today I brought in the idea for an "only Fedora
Ambassadors meeting" ...
We are always doing presentations for Fedora, we're always "on the run"
on presentations, in meetings everywhere ...
But ...
... fromeach other we only know the name, sometimes a photo (somewhere
seen in the web) but there is no time for us to have a meeting only for
us; discussing all things which are laying on our tongue.
Meetings in IRC are nice things but, there is not alway time to discuss
really, no real life meeting can be replaced by IRC or mailing list.
So let's plan an AMBASSADORS Meeting!
What do you think about????
Somebody talked about money?! Why? I spend my money for traveling in
Europe and for one or two nights in a hotel if I get the possibility to
meet for example all EMEA Ambassadors somewhere on the continent
EUROPE ...
OK, I think, a Ambassadors meeting must be a continental plan. One
Meeting in NA, one in APAC and one in EMEA ...
tell me your ideas and let's have a look if it makes sense to speed up
this idea!
Regards
