Re: [Ambassadors] CD / DVD stickers needed
by Vali Cobelea
Hi,
Thank you for this info, I'm planning several short presentations about
Fedora Project at the University of Galati, Romania, and I did not know from
where / how to get Fedora 11 CDs / DVDs.

Fedora-Women Plans

I will see what can be done.
0. I am seeing a lack of direction (apart from inactivity) at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Women
1. The goal of improving collaboration within Fedora is definitely
sensible, but we need to look beyond.
2. Initiatives within Fedora : A FAS group will be useful.
3. If we need to reach out/ expand free s/w network then apart from
s/w related aspects we need to look at other avenues.
4. Different regions and cultures of oppression exist. We need to
address them differently.
5. A Fedora distribution (or any spin) is not customized for any group
of people: by way of themes, information (that go beyond
documentation). Can we have spins that address
a. rights including things like the s/w in
http://www.huridocs.org/research-development/ and related
customization.
b. lack of basic knowledge among people that lead to social evils.
c. Other kinds of basic knowledge that can empower people. This is
going beyond the education spins.
and free software that provide the same (instead of dumping entire
Wikipedia / links on people).
(that is some work)
6. There are innumerable rights to be fought for and rights are a way
of reaching out to people.
Events will keep happening ... but there should be different kinds of events.
Best

Swag ideas for the general events
by Aleksandra Fedorova
Hi,
I've just come back from the Linux Tag and there are some ideas I want to
share. As I am new to this list and to the whole Fedora Events thing, I am
not sure if you've discussed them already, so feel free to direct me to
some old threads.
It seems for me that the swag we had in a booth is targeted more to the
Fedora users then to outsiders.
I mean buttons and stickers are cool, but they have no content, no
information, only Fedora logo. They create the point of attraction, give
you the reason to come closer, but they are not the conversation starters,
since they don't give you the reason to ask something.
Thus, maybe we can get some printed material as well? And not the general
stuff like Fedora is about Freedom, but more specific.
For example:
* current Fedora Features list - this might be Release Notes, or (and I
think it's better) - some Accepted Features list for the next release with
very short explanation. Several people asked me what's new in F19. And it
would be great to have a list and to point in some features and discuss
them with more details.
* checklist on how to become "Fedora <smth>"
Starting from very simple "Fedora User checklist"
- get it (link)
- boot it (link)
- run it (link)
to "Fedora Packager checklist" and "Fedora Translator checklist" and so
on. There shouldn't be detailed instructions, since the full info is on
wiki pages. But short overview of the process, so people would get the
general idea, and become interested.
* cheat cubes [1]
3d-printed cubes are the coolest :) but cheat cubes are also funny. And I
would add QR-code with the link on the source PDF-file to it. Thus you can
build your cube, then go home, download the source file and build more.
The main idea is to make these things short and catchy, as you don't need
the whole booklet full of buzzwords, which no one ever reads. It could be
something halfpage or quarter page size, but should make you wonder and
ask, what it is all about.

Re: [Ambassadors] ambassadors Digest, Vol 259, Issue 10
by hagr182
Maria´s profile idea is Genius, it would show how Fedora might adapt and
serve each user´s specific needs, and as she says it will serve us to
generate statistics on who uses Fedora and what for, generating very useful
data to us Ambassador and the rest of the Community.
We should make it, if the idea does fly, so that by the end of the
profiling and questioning the user is given 2 links, one for the general
release and one for a spin that may as well serve him. (I.E. the security
spin). And we might aswell in an extras section give a curated suggestion
of packages to install that might be useful.
This way we become more friendly to the users, because there are many who
shiver at the mere mention of linux, afraid of loosing the hability to do
what they are doing right now on other OSes, not to mention we gain an
useful insight on our users.
