EMEA: Preliminary Statutes
by Jeroen van Meeuwen
Hi There,
this message particularly addresses the EMEA Ambassadors, although of
course every Ambassador regardless of the geographical location is free
to comment.
Attached is the first initial draft of the Statutes of Fedora EMEA,
which have been submitted for a principle (non-official) approval to the
German Financial Department some time ago, too.
As we have not yet heard back from the German Financial Department, we
need to treat this initial draft with a little caution as far as
additions or changes are concerned; The document is in PDF format for a
reason ;-) I send this version of the document to all Ambassadors
anyway, because we do need some time to read the document and collect
all comments before the group of Ambassadors attending FOSDEM 2008 in
Brussels, Belgium takes it up for voting.
The Statutes are based on a set that has been previously accepted by the
German Financial Department (a local LUG), with some minor changes as to
what the geographical scope and possibilities (meetings in person, etc.)
are.
Please note that although the scope of the NPO according to these
Statutes is very, very broad, the NPO will not (can not) interfere with
normal Fedora Project's daily operations, principles or other
contributors and Ambassadors regardless of the continent either of those
take place in -it is primarily founded to provide a legal entity to
those of us (Ambassadors) in the EMEA area that need to share some kind
of resources (think of a purchasing an Event Kit that is being shipped
from one place to another, and cover the back of those Ambassadors that
now invest privately in getting a booth at an Event, etc.).
Please also mind that none of this is set in stone, and the board (to be
elected at FOSDEM 2008 if Statutes are accepted) will need to make the
final decision on those topics.
Any comments to what is in the document are welcome (via the mailing
list or to myself in private); any comments as to what is happening here
I would prefer you send to me in private to prevent any kind of
discussion taking any direction we are going to regret at some point in
time.
Thank you,
Kind regards,
Jeroen van Meeuwen

Fwd: [info] LUG Manipal's First Fedora 8 Install Fest
by Ankur Shrivastava
For the First time in History of Manipal a Linux ( Fedora 8 ) Install Fest
took place on the Campus, it was organized by Linux user Group Manipal. It
was Basically a 2 Day Fest, on 24th a Pre-Install Fest / Meet was there
where participants were Informed about the requirements, advantages and
Importance of GNU/Linux and what all we will be doing in the second day i.e.
25th , there were all information given about various events held by
companies inviting students to innovate. The Day ended with the collection
of DVD to be burned for 25th Main Fest and some 45+ DVD's were collected
with DVD's still coming till start of Second day
Second day began with partitioning and distribution of DVD's after which the
main install fest began and all the steps were shown and explained, there
was some DVD corruption / Improper burning in 1-2 DVD's but everything else
was just fine, a script was prepared for upgrading Compiz and enabling 3D
effects for the HP 6515b laptops, the script handled most of the task which
were to be done in command line though all people were explained what it did
but since most of the people were First Time users it really made the task
of configuring the system very easy, rest laptops faced no problems so they
directly booted in Graphical mode already being out of time the Install Fest
was Finished with some problems still remaining which were solved
Me (Ankur Shrivastava
<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/AnkurShrivastava>) and Dhananjay
Shingh <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DhananjaySingh> Organized and guided
the Install Fest..........
We are looking forward for Organizing more events like these

Subject: Florida Linux Show in Jacksonville FL, Feb 11th 2008
To: fedora-announce-list(a)redhat.com
Reminder: Speakers, Exhibitors & Support still needed... time is getting
short! They are looking for more Vendors, EDUs & Organizations that
would like to setup a Booth. If you know folks in the area that would be
interested in speaking or sponsoring an exhibit, please let us know
asap. Perhaps a presentation or two could be recycled from FUDcon? There
will be Gentoo & Ubuntu exhibits, it would be nice if someone could help
represent Fedora, my favorite Laptop distro. -Thanks, Art@JAX

My scheduled conferences
by Tom Callaway
Hello fellow ambassadors!
For those of you who may not have yet heard, I'm the new Fedora
Engineering Manager inside Red Hat. You can think of it this way: If
Paul Frields is Captain Kirk, I'm Mr. Spock. ;)
Since Paul can't be everywhere, we've decided that we'll be sharing some
of the load on conference attendance. I'll let Paul speak to what he has
on his calendar, but here is what I have penciled in on mine (I haven't
updated the wiki yet, but I will, I promise):
Feb 8th - 10th, 2008 - SCALE 6X - Los Angeles, CA, USA
Feb 23rd - 24th, 2008 - FOSDEM - Brussel, Belgium
March 14th - 16th, 2008 - PyCon - Chicago, IL, USA
May 28th - 31st, 2008 - LinuxTag - Berlin, Germany
July 23rd - 26th, 2008 - Linux Symposium - Ottawa, Canada
Oct 10th - 11th, 2008 - Ohio LinuxFest - Columbus, OH, USA
This is by no means a complete list, it is simply what I've got penciled
in right now. If there is an event that you would like me to attend on
behalf of Fedora, please let me know, and I'll see if I can work it in.
Also, if anyone could give me a recommendation for lodging at FOSDEM
(preferrably in the same place as other Fedora folks), I would be very
grateful.
Thanks,
~spot

Linux Fest Northwest
by Jesse Keating
I'm headed back to LFWN http://linuxfestnorthwest.org/ . I was
planning on giving talks, going to talks, chatting with anybody who was
interested, and handing out DVDs. However there seems to be some
expressed interest in having a Fedora booth there for a more
formal/traditional method of talking to Fedora folks and handing out
material. Is there anybody in the Pacific North West who would be
interested in doing booth duty at this event?
