Dear all,
A new font has been proposed as the Fedora Core 6 default font. So far the discussion has focused on the technical aspects, and only our Greek users have told us what they thought of the font actual style.
To have a more comprehensive view of what the whole Fedora userbase thinks, we're launching a font testing campaign. The following message will be sent to the English Fedora lists in a few hours is no one on this list objects:
%<--------------------------- Dear Fedora user,
A new font is being proposed as the Fedora Core default font. It probably impacts your language. Please tell us what you think about it:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fonts/DejavuFeedbackCall
Happy testing! %<---------------------------
We're asking the Fedora Ambassadors to relay the message in every local Fedora community so we get a good round of feedback. For example I've translated the wiki page in French: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/fr_FR/Polices/EvaluezDejavu and I hope our french-speaking members will make good use of this material.
Our Greek members have suggested every ambassador completes the table on the following wiki page after the testing: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fonts/DejaVu
If you feel you can't endorse the font for a particular langage, please link there the DejaVu bugzilla entries which are blockers in your opinion. This way we'll know which parts of the font need to be blacklisted before Fedora ships it, and follow the upstream fix process.
If you have any question don't hesitate to mail me or put it in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=170218
Remember that even if we don't finish the testing in time, or if we find more problems than the DejaVu project can fix before the FC6 deadline, a post-release update would still be possible (don't tell the Greeks this - they'll skin me if the font doesn't make FC6 ;) )
Regards,
ambassadors@lists.fedoraproject.org
