But you say nsswitch.conf is identical between the two systems? This
seems unlikely?
Yep, somehow I got confused.

hosts: files myhostname mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] resolve

f36 (20220208)
hosts: files mdns4_minimal resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] myhostname dns
The 20220201 based installation that I was testing did not have
mdns4_minimal at all, so what I guess I need to figure out is if this
changes once it's installed and if it's working now a week later...
