gtk print dialog and OOo
by Caolán McNamara
We've supported a gtk print dialog integration in OOo for a while, but
there has always been a few little gotchas, and now that the "built-in"
OOo dialog has some nifty extras there are extra gotchas. So I'll be
reverting to the "built-in" dialog for F11, a quick dump of the gotchas
are..
*) Need an extra "Selection" option for printing.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344519
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=563619
OOo can print just the selected text, selected graphic or selected
cells, but no way to show that in the gtk print dialog.
*) Way to specify the page size and orientation (esp. when using n-up
printing)
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551409
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551726
Most OpenOffice.org applications have per-page orientations rather than
global per print-job orientation, but when printing multiple pages in
one sheet of paper through cups, its desirable to have a way to specify
the orientation and page size of the combined sheet. We could do this
with a custom tab, but see next entry
*) Emit a signal when a printer is selected.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=564854
So e.g. a custom tab that should only exist for say, printing to a cups
backend, or using save as .pdf file can be shown/hidden depending on the
printer selection, e.g. pdf encryption options or pdf "read-only except
for filling in fields" directives which only make sense in a save
as .pdf context. Hackable around with nasty switch-page callback on the
notebook widget if you rummage around horrifically through the dialog
hierarchy looking for it.
*) Spreadsheet printing
No "All Sheets", "Selected Sheets" in addition to the pages options for
spreadsheets that may have multiple sheets each of which can span
multiple pages. "Page 1 of 2 sheets selected out of 3 sheets in total".
Could do a gnumeric and do this in a custom tab though
*) Presentation printing
Want to select notes, or outline, or handouts. Could do this in a custom
tab though.

xguest in the live cd
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
Since the previous thread seems to be getting ignored, can someone from
the desktop team, let me know what you think of this? It would be nice
to a guest user by default on the live cd. We can get some feedback, if
we make this happen by Fedora 11 beta release.

liveusb-creator on Live CD?
by Max Spevack
Hi team,
One of the suggestions that we received at the Fedora booth this past
weekend at Chemnitzer Linux Tage was to add liveusb-creator to the
default pacakge set for both the Desktop Live CD and the DVD.
Since the package manifest for the Desktop Live CD is the responsibility
of this team, I wanted to forward the suggestion on.
The package is quite small, and I don't *think* it pulls in any
dependencies that aren't already part of the spin.
Thanks,
Max

IdeaForge
by Jeremy Hankenson
While this is probably not the correct mailing list but the closest I could find.
I purpose that Fedora implement a "Ideaforge" or "Brainstorm" like functionality for the Fedora Distribution. These examples can be found at:
http://ideaforge.linux.com/ * brainstorm.ubuntu.com
to see the kind of functionality I am talking about. I believe an easy way to suggest Ideas to this distribution is a good community effort and is should be implemented through all distributions. Having to the ability suggest, rate, and comment on Ideas the Users want is definitely something that would allow us to put fourth our opinions and suggestions in a easy and convenient way to the Fedora Devs, while leaving the mailing lists for the developers and the "IdeaForge" for the users.
Thoughs?

Switching to brasero
by Matthias Clasen
Gnome 2.26 is making brasero the default cd burning application in
favour of nautilus-cd-burner. I think we should switch to using Brasero
in the desktop spin as well.
Bastien has done a lot of the work to make this change not regression.
Basically, unless you explicitly start brasero, the cd burning user
experience should be pretty much unchanged.
Comments ?

Excellent. Can I get the opinions of folks in the desktop team? I would
like to see xguest by default in the Fedora 11 Beta Live cd.
