Fedora 16 Beta RC3: desktop validation requested

Hey, everyone. We have one final Beta RC (hopefully!) for desktop validation: http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/16-Beta.RC3/Live/x86_64/ We could really use some help ensuring the desktop validation tests are done across all the desktops to make sure they're in shape for Beta. More info and the results page here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_16_Beta_RC3_Desktop It's easy to do the tests and file the results, there's full instructions there, but do feel free to poke me or anyone else in #fedora-qa if you have trouble. At minimum we need the Alpha and Beta tests for Desktop, Fallback and KDE to be complete in order to sign off on the Beta release, but it'd be great to have results for all of the tests for all desktops. We got the tests done for Desktop and KDE in RC2, and there should be no difference with RC3 - the only changes between RC2 and RC3 are an updated libreport to fix a bug with reporting bugs from the installer, and dropping gnome-documents from the default install as it crashes on start - but we still need to check. Fallback mode is highest priority as that wasn't tested in RC2. Hi, Just reminding you that we need a new main slide design for fedoraproject.org. We don't want Mo to do it in the last minute like when we released fedora 15, so someone should better start now. Building 3.1.92

Hey, I'm starting to do 3.1.92 builds now. I think we can probably get away without the f16-gnome tag and just build things into f16-updates-candidate as usual. I still want to do a big update collecting most of the 3.1.92 modules; I think that has worked fairly well for the past few releases. If people feel like helping out with builds, feel free to do so and let me know which builds you want me to pick up for the update. Matthias

tracker in F16

Hey, folks. So, in F16, totem has grown a dependency on tracker, via grilo-plugins. This means tracker is now present and active in default F16 installs, where it wasn't before. This is leading to the problems that have been endemic to desktop search mechanisms ever since the first one crawled out of the fiery pits of hell - excessive resource consumption, viz: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/test/2011-September/102688.html https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/test/2011-September/102770.html peter robinson reckons it would be easy to split out grilo-plugins' dependency on tracker and hence get tracker out of the default package set again, if that's desired: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/test/2011-September/102730.html so, what's the plan here? is tracker's default inclusion a mistake which can be rectified as per pbrobinson's plan, or should we be trying to get tracker excessive-consumption bugs fixed? if it's going to be in there by default, it should probably have a less aggressive indexing policy by default. it installs with its aggressiveness set to max, a fairly expansive set of search paths (including removable media), and without the config tool which lets you tweak these things, as nothing has a dep on tracker-search-tool. -- Adam Williamson Fedora QA Community Monkey IRC: adamw | Twitter: AdamW_Fedora | identi.ca: adamwfedora http://www.happyassassin.net

Mouse activate clicks not working for KDE programs

From the G-3 desktop in both F16 and rawhide I can mouse left or right click to select (highlight) a button in KDE programs, but I have to use keyboard enter to activate it. I don't have the full kde desktop installed, just some of the programs I like (k3b, dolphin, kate, etc). Anyone have an idea what is going on or what the workaround is? I would bz this, but don't know what package to name. TIA -- Regards, OldFart

gnome-menu changes

Hi there, can you please share some insight on the latest changes in gnome-menu? 1. The python module is no longer shipped, is this intended? 2. redhat-menus is no longer used. IHMO think this is a step in the wrong direction because we no longer have consistent menus between desktops. What is the future of redhat-menus? 3. Now that redhat-menus are not used anymore, can we please have all *.directory and *.menu files from gnome-menus properly prefixed with "gnome-"? Regards, Christoph

New Transifex: TM, QA controls, .desktop, Private projects

desktop comps

Hi All, Just going through and reviewing a F-16 install and I've some queries about various deps listed in the comps file for gnome-desktop to see if I can trim the size a little. gok: does this need to be default now with the new keyboard in gnome 3.2? Can it be made optional as its the only thing that pulls in ORBit2 and a couple of other deps and saves about 12mb Also why are there various libraries specified in the comps file, its only really suppose to specify apps and the libs then get pulled in as deps when needed. There's a few more meg to be save by dropping libsane-hpaio and its not used in the default install. Not huge but helps. Peter
