GNOME 3 Test Day #1: announcement up
by Adam Williamson
Hey folks, just a quick note that I've put up the 'official'
announcement
of the first GNOME 3 Test Day:
http://www.happyassassin.net/2011/01/31/gnome-3-test-day-1-come-try-the-n...
If you can blog it (or dent it or tweet it or whatever the cool kids
are doing with the intarwebs nowadays) that would be really great -
especially if you can get it on aggregators, particularly Fedora and
GNOME Planets, and any news sites you know of.
Also huge thanks to John Palmieri, Christopher Aillon and David
Malcolm who fed me a huge set of test case ideas today at FUDCon -
I definitely have enough to make a really comprehensive set of tests
for the event. Right now the page still has the crappy initial set of
test cases, but I'll be writing up the ideas I got today and the ones
from Cosimo as test cases tonight and tomorrow, probably, and updating
the page to be way more awesome.
Of course, if you have any time on Thursday (whenever that is, in your
time zone) please come and drop by the IRC channel, and do some testing
or help out other testers or whatever you can, that would be really
helpful too. And please let me know if you have any suggestions or
corrections or ideas or anything for the event(s). thanks!

Fwd: [Fedora-spins] Nightly composes using XZ spins
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
Might consider including LibreOffice or parts of it in the Live CD if
feasible

Subject: [Fedora-spins] Nightly composes using XZ spins

The nightly composes switched over to using XZ today. I am not sure if
something else changed in rawhide last night, but the kde and desktop
spins each dropped about 130 MB which is a lot better than I expected
(which was mostly based on the effect I had seen on the games spin
in tests).
If you see any problems that look like they might be related using XZ for
the spins please file a bug against livecd-tools.

First GNOME 3 Test Day coming up next week: really need help creating test cases
by Adam Williamson
Hey, everyone! Just a reminder that the first GNOME 3 Test Day is coming
next Thursday. I have the page up at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2011-02-03_GNOME3_Alpha , but
what we're really missing is good test cases; for now I've filled in
some of the standard desktop validation tests, and I'll update a few of
the others to match GNOME 3's mechanics and add those too, but it'd
really help to have some more specific test cases for whatever the
desktop team considers really important to test. If you don't want to
work out the details of writing full test cases, just quick one- or two-
liner suggestions in reply to this mail is fine; I can do the work of
fleshing them out into test cases, I just need suggestions of the most
important things we need to test at this stage.
thanks a lot!

Gnome Shell
by Jóhann B. Guðmundsson
I just got 2 minor usage issues
How to I go about adding something to the top panel?
I'm used to have "System Monitor" Displaying various resource usage up
there ( cpu memory network swap space etc )
How do I create a custom launcher which I can then add to "Favourites"
or any of the menus ( Accessories, Games etc )?

Gnote and GNOME Shell
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
Gnote was one of the default icons in the GNOME Panel and in GNOME
Shell, the sidebar doesn't have it and it seems that starting it
manually puts it in the bottom (message tray?). How do I make it start
by default and what is the recommendation for it to integrate with GNOME
Shell properly? It seems that in the overview mode, sometimes the icons
are not easy or impossible to click (applicable to Gnote, Xchat etc) Is
it intended design that it be visible only in the overview mode?
Also, Gnote package includes the applet. Should this be split up from
Gnote and not installed by default since GNOME Shell doesn't support
applets?

comps changes for f15
by Adam Williamson
Hi, all. Just wondering if changes to comps for F15 (GNOME 3) have been
considered already. It'd be good to have any necessary changes made ASAP
so that nightlies start to resemble what F15 final will look like, as
much as possible.
For a start it seems sensible to make gnome-shell mandatory, and maybe
gnome-panel would be default rather than mandatory. Per
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=658605 , we'll also need
gnome-themes-standard to be installed by default, and I'm not sure
anything currently causes that; though adding it to comps may not be the
best approach, as that won't fix updates.
Are there any other necessary changes?
