I see this as a discussion in the open of how the desktop team would
like to see the updates experience, so that the desktop team can work on
a proposal for a wider audience. It's no different than discussing it
in a cube, or in an IRC meeting, or on a bus, or whatever. While the
proposal may effect many people, the discussion of creating the proposal
from the Desktop point of view does not need to be shouted from the roof
tops and held in a venue where we have 4K mixed opinions and endless
argument.
That's a good way to look at it, and if that's the idea then it seems
fine to me. I was a bit worried with the discussion about 'just going
ahead and doing stuff', though.
