Hi,
Hope you had a good holiday season.
I propose again some changes to the default apps for F24:
* Empathy - remove without replacement.
How about Pidgin? Running several chat
like Viber, IMO, and other WebRTC
would be nice to integrate in the desktop. Shame that Empathy
development is inactive. Hopefully someone will step up to maintain it
upstream.
* Shotwell -> GNOME Photos.
Design Suite currently set
GNOME Photos as default for the future F24.
However, the main concern on the roadmap is import from cameras and SD
card set for Gnome 3.22 according to the roadmap[1]. Debarshi showed a
mockup sorting the import by date-time similar to Google Photos and in
some extent Apple Photos.
gThumb could be an alternative but the lack of non-destructive editing
is a stopping point.
* Rhythmbox -> GNOME Music. I'm using it every day. It works great and
doesn't look like a database frontend. If you want Rhythmbox you can
still install it. There are a couple rough edges left, but it's much
nicer than Rhythmbox overall. One blocker, though: this would need to
be conditional on getting GNOME#747953 (information leak via plain text
HTTP connection) fixed first.
The issue with GNOME Music is import from CD which
still remains one of
popular media. Still more work to do according to the roadmap[2].
