Btw, seems the two big desktop OSes; OSX and Windows 10 both come with Maps
apps build it these days.

I think it's a good idea, it's a good example of a good app, and it's
useful, and it helps people avoid being dependent on Google Maps, and
I think it behaves better than OSM does in a web browser - I think
it's pulling data from OSM anyway though right?
As for removal, I think it should easily be removable, as are most
applications, in gnome-software. Short of a drag and drop application
model, that's about as easy as it gets.
