The CfP isn't out yet and neither is the event format. There is no proprietary codecs or non-free codecs in Omega. Some of them are potentially patent encumbered (only if you are in a region that considers software patents as valid) but nothing proprietary. Like I already mentioned, this is rebranded only because it includes third party software packages. The point is that it is not entirely different distribution. Like all the different spins, this is just a matter of convenience. Many of the Fedora users go to a third party repository like Livna to get additional software. This live cd reduces that hassle and makes things easier. Also for people who are relying on media (CD/DVD) instead of Internet connection for software, this live cd is more useful. Rahul

Hi, Though the weekly meetings haven't been as regular, we have been having some conversations the last couple of weeks. Package Reviews ---------------- Debarishi and Soumya Kanti Chakraborty has a couple of packages reviews waiting on queue LDTP https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=459010 Python-statgrab https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=459010 The second package is a dependency for the first one. I have Griffith waiting on review as well https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=458402 Session on spins ---------------- Next week at the usual time (Sunday 6:30 PM), I will be holding a irc session on creating your own distribution based on Fedora. This is a broad topic so we will be dealing specifically with the usage of livecd-tools to create live media images and derivatives. If you are interested, do let me know in advance so that I have a better sense of the audience. If you are going to follow through as a virtual workshop, I strongly recommend that you have a local mirror of the Fedora repository available. Any currently maintained release of Fedora is fine although I recommend rawhide branch for the latest features. The lack of quality video drivers is destroying Fedora.

Hi All, I've found interesting article written by some Fedora Fan. --snip-- Guess why? Not quality video drivers leave the machine with only some default drivers and that is bad because some users would like to play games or start some eye-candy things like Compiz Fusion. This is negative effect to the community and some users of the Fedora community leave Fedora in interest to other distros that have that drivers. --snip-- I too agree with above snip from article to certain extent. I wonder what Fedora project is upto taking above thing in consideration. --snip-- I am strong supporter of the ideals of the open source and really love Fedora. I notice some mismanagement and lack of cooperation between official and unofficial Fedora projects. Probably we all would benefit more if the official Fedora updates and the Livna updates were more synchronized. And update of the kernel does not leave the system without video drivers or other vital parts. In that case, more and more users will leave Fedora and migrate to other GNU/Linux distributions even if they are "evil" or have signed suspicious contracts with 3th party companies... --snip-- What you guys think about above snip from the Article?? Omega 10 Beta released

We proudly present to you, dear users with Omega. Omega is a Linux based operating system suitable for desktop and laptop users. It is a Live CD for regular PC (i686 architecture) systems that includes a variety of free and open source software from Fedora and Livna repository. You can try it out on a computer or install it to the hard disk. This is a BETA release with a snapshot of the latest bleeding edge development packages for early testing and feedback. It is roughly similar to the upcoming Fedora 10 Beta release.
