[Idea] How about generating servicepacks of gstreamer* et.al.?
by susmit shannigrahi
I was thinking about this a couple of days before.
Somewhere, I heard someone saying, you need to compile code to get the
musics playing. Now, I corrected them and pointed out that what they
need to do in order to get it playing.
Then this idea came to my mind, what if we generate the service packs
of say gstreamer-plugins*, vlc and the other necessary but restricted
software and host it outside fedora's infrastructure? We can give
these people a single link and say for playing all the audio/video
stuff, go to this link, download this servicepack, come home and
install it.
A few will say, we have to create service packs for each updates
pushed. But really we can do with the servicepack made with base
release only. This is because, he who does not have enough bw at home,
in all probability, will not update his system. So chances are high
that he will still run the base installation.
Should we talk with rpmfusion people?

Two Problems
by das
1. I had some problems in F 11 with my motherboard and display driver:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=496545
This I started reporting on 19th April 2009, without any solution till
now. I expected the problem to go away with F 12, but it did not. In
fact, as I reported in the bug today, that, in F 12 it became bigger.
So I went back to F 11 (with nomodeset in the kernel line).
2. Today, I was doing scp between my laptop (F 12) and desktop (F 11),
some ogg files I was copying from the desktop to the laptop. And a
most queer thing happened. I was so surprised that I took a
screenshot, and I am attaching that PNG with it. All the files on the
laptop was showing exactly the double size of that on the desktop. As
you can compare in the screenshot. The terminal on the left is
dd@mamdo, which is my desktop, and this is on SSH. And the terminal on
the right is dd@dia, that is, my laptop where I took the screenshot.
'ls -sh' showing exactly double size, 'ls -s' showing exactly the
double number of blocks, though the 'md5sum' for both of them is
generating the same number. Both of them are on EXT4. This is
something that is explosively beyond my comprehension. As you can see
in the screenshot, some package update was going on, I rebooted after
it. Expected it to go away: some kind of misreporting. But, it is
showing exactly the same thing till now.

GNUnify Schedule and Fedora Plans - 19&20th
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
GNUnify has its schedule list at
http://gnunify.in/19-feb-2010
http://gnunify.in/20-feb-2010
People attending please try and be there around eight so that we can
discuss plans in person
I have a session at 10 in the morning and Fedora related ones are spread
out within the two days instead of a single Fedora activity day like in
the past due to unavailable of a dedicated room but since we have more
contributors flying in we can a few potential things planned including a
package a review session and hopefully fix some of the FTFBS ( ) bugs
due to the ld change in Rawhide now
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2010-February/130782.html
I have proven packager access and could commit and build any patches you
might have for these bugs and since we are nearing the Fedora 13 Alpha
release and past the freeze this would be a good and fairly simple task
