Subject: [ilug-tvm] ls -h not working on EL5 / CentOS 5
To: ilug-tvm(a)googlegroups.com
Hey everyone,
One of my friends is facing a serious problem in Redhat Enterprise
Linux 5 and CentOS 5. When he tries to list files in a directory with
the ls command, he gets an error like this:
[root@vasant ~]# ls -h
ls: invalid option -- h
Try `ls --help' for more information.
[root@vasant ~]# ll -h
ls: invalid option -- h
Try `ls --help' for more information.
The ls command was working fine when he first installed both OSs. When
he noticed this issue, he checked the version of ls, and got this:
[root@vasant ~]# ls --version
ls - GNU fileutils-3.13
[root@vasant ~]#
This is very strange, because the latest version of GNU fileutils was
released around 2003, and it was merged into GNU coreutils by 2003.
So, it seems that somehow his coreutils package was replaced by an
outdated fileutils package.
He asked this question on LinuxQuestions.org and someone suggested to
check for rootkits (See link below).
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/facing-a-problem-wit…
Has anybody here experienced any similar problems? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
Hi Susmit Sir,
As you had notified in the previous mailing lists that Fedora India
Ambassadors would be receiving 10 fedora media, and for that i had
also mailed you my address, so could i know about the approx dates
when i would be receiving them? In another fedora-india list reply you
have mentioned to one user that he will be getting them by 6th-10th
Decmeber, so does the ship dates it hold good for other ambassadors
too?
Cheers,
Debjit

Hi,
Got an opportunity to take sessions on introduction to GNU/ Linux &
Administration at AVC Polytechnic Mayiladurai based on Fedora 9, last
week. The documents prepared for the classes can be downloaded and
used from http://amachu.net/foss/fedora/docs/
The documents are in Tamil.

Is anyone from Mumbai / Pune willing to be a speaker (and hence
demo-chap) at this event ?
The idea is to talk about Fedora as a Project and the means to become a
part of the Fedora Community.

Fedora 10 - "Cambridge" is already released on Nov 25th. As a part of it
KKLUG-India conducted a meeting to celebrate it on that day. Fedora 10 will
be freely distributed to all members of KKLUG as soon as possible. The
Fedora 10 Local Release Announcement was placed in the following link:

See the above link and tell me some suggestions about it...

Anirudh will probably put up his contact details in a while.. You can
contact anyone of the people in the list there.. If we arnt from your city,
you can either give the free-media programme a try by filling the form at
the start of each month or you can use the local contacts programme.. Under
the local contacts program you will have to mail an empty media to a
provider with a stamped return envelope..Ill try contacting Anirudh in the
mean time..

Ankur

Anyone else participating in it, please let me know.
Thanks & Regards,
