Something I did to accomplish this was have a cobbler snippet for a custom
"firstboot" script, which can be made to run all sorts of validation checks on
what was config'd and how well the installation went.

This works with the firstboot utility that comes with Red hat? I thought about this but
never looked into customizing firstboot. I'll have a look.
