Windows install with Cobbler
by Janet.Conkle@afscn.com
Has anyone been successful in installing windows using cobbler? I've
found a few things on the net but nothing definitive. I need a tool
that will install baseline images on lab boxes of both the linux and
Windows flavors.

Seeking feedback from build ISO users
by Jörgen Maas
Hi all,
I'm currently working on some patches regarding the cobbler buildiso feature.
Now i'm wondering who is using the netboot iso and the profiles as
provided in the boot menu, instead of the system records in the menu?
Could you also describe your use case, e.g. why are you using this
feature?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

SNIPPET Integration issues
by Idan Shinberg
Hello
I'm a heavy user of post Installation Code in the kickstart File.
Due to multiple profiles requirements , I've decided to devide my post
installation code into various cobbler SNIPPETS.
The problems I'm having is that whenever I try to use cheetah(python)
#if-else macros the snippet doesn't get translated at all.
( though If I put syntax errors and do cobbler profile getks it would
scream about parsing them.
For example:
my kickstart is centos.ks.inside , it has the following snippet :
$SNIPPET('add_mounts')
/var/lib/cobbler/snippets/add_mounts contains:
#if profile == 1
echo "nfs.servers:/mount_1 mount_1 nfs defaults 0 0" >> /etc/fstab
#end if
Using it results and issuing cobbler profile getks ... results in just
"$SNIPPET('add_mounts')" being written to stdout , instead of the
snippet content
however , if I remove the #if macro , I get :
echo "nfs.servers:/mount_1 mount_1 nfs defaults 0 0'
as desired ...
Cobbler Version : 2.0.11
OS-Version : CentOs 5.5
Kernel Version : 2.6.18-194.3.1
Python Version : 2.4.3
Any help is appreciated ...
Thanks

I need to override cobbler/modules/install_post_puppet.py
by Dan White
I just got a Cobbler/Puppet combo up and running.
On my first install, I see "install_post_puppet" trying to puppet-certify my just-built machine.
However, I am NOT using the FQDN for the certname -- which is what this scriipt uses.
How can I override this in my installation ?
I have created a custom facter-fact to give me the certname I need.

RE: cobbler Digest, Vol 39, Issue 14
by Janet.Conkle@afscn.com
I have 3 boxes in our lab testbed that I need to do a bare metal install
on before automated system tests are run. Unfortunately each box is a
different OS. I have a Redhat box, a Windows XP box and a Windows 7 box
that I need to install. So basically before the final tests can be run,
I need to do a wipedisk, install the OS, and then install our software.
Ideally this can all be automated and be kicked off by the automated
test scripts.
So, can I do the OS installs with cobbler?

Installing from NFS?
by Ed Deloye
Hi Mad,
We use NFS for the install path. In our case we do the following:
1. Edit the Distro and change the Kickstart metadata.
a. I replace the entire string with this: ksdistro=distro_name
2. In the profile add another Kicstart Metadata
a. loccode=locx
3. Create a snippet that sets the server name and directory path and then specifies the nfs line
4. Include that snippet in the kickstart template.
Here is a sample of the snippet:
#set $loccode = $getVar('loccode', 'loc1')
#if $loccode == 'loc1'
#set $server = 'loc1_server'
#set $path = '/loc1_path'
#else if $loccode == 'loc2'
#set $server = 'loc2_server'
#set $path = '/loc2_path'
#else if $loccode == 'loc3'
#set $server = 'loc3_server'
#set $path = '/loc3_path'
#end if
# Network install
nfs --server $server --dir $path/$ksdistro

ONBOOT=no
by McEvoy, James
Is there a way to have cobbler configure a NIC so it has ONBOOT=no on its sysconfig file on RHEL5.5.
I have two quad-port gigE cards I am bonding together and a a two port 10gigE card that is not connected to the network. Since I do not have a 10gigE switch yet is there a way to configure the server in cobbler so the 10gigE ports do not try to start on boot?
