Greetings Rajesh,
It looks like we only have read-only access to that *Google docs*. So what
is the reason for using Google Docs? It made many of the subscribers to
visit a proprietory platform one additional time in their life. You could
have shared that text in the email itself.
( Or Maybe you could have used google forms to get the opinion if you had
desired so. )
Anyway to the point, I don't think it is very wise to make such things
mandatory as that could restrict many products from being available. But we
can definitely encourage the vendors and manufacturers who promote devices
with local languages. We can offer help to those interested in bringing the
support of Indian languages to their devices.
I am glad that Government organizations such as CDAC are partnering with
various organizations and volunteer communities to promote Localization.
But making it mandate is definitely not the way we want to take .
Hi Kuppan,
I am sorry, due to my mistake it happened. I made it comment-able.
Thank you for the mail. I have asked here as a community member, I am not
representing any organization here. Several times we discussed about the
condition of languages in India and this can be an exercise to just
understand the nerve of the community.
I am not understanding your concern in favour of device company why just
making available in localized version will force any device to be
unavailable from the market. Have you ever try to understand the concern of
majority of the population who is unable to decipher the language and keys
they don't understand at all. We talk about accessibility, accessibility of
blinds etc, but how much the device is inaccessible to the mass whose voice
is not reaching to the higher level, because they are not making a pressure
group. During last six months I discussed with several non English speaking
people and purposefully asked about their inability to use smartphones and
I found that the device with only English is very much difficult for them.
Just imagine, a driver is driving by the instruction of maps in English,
one person eats medicines without being able to read the label and so
on...all are of critical nature, who is responsible for any fatal accident?
Hope I am able to convey my points. Btw, I am also understanding your view
points...but this just a discussion. If FUEL Community thinks the Govt
should do something and make it mandatory we can send our concern to
relevant department on behalf of language community.
Thanks.
