Running on Fedora 9 (and using --available-as to save space, not
because
it was needed), I am unable to import a F-9 DVD.

If you can fix the Fedora ISO import case, I'll apply this.
The first patch attached (#0) fixes the --network-root imports. After realize on
the indentation bug it has been really straighforward.
I've increased my test cases with two network-root imports (a single fedora
and a double fedora + RHAS tree). And as I have improved the test scripts,
I'm completelly sure that the results of all the imports are not only the same
that when patches are not applied, but even better as the os version is also
discovered on multiple tree imports.
It is looking like imports are "complicated" so if you do
think we need
seperate import code for Fedora/Red Hat/CentOS and Debian we can do
that, and require a "--breed" to import.
That was actually the idea, and the second patch (#1) is the first real step to
that goal. It tries to encapsulate the distro add methods, and in
brief will hold
other switch-alike methods as scan_pkg_filename and set_variance.

P.S.: The patch are actually splited just to make easier to understand
the code reorganization
