Hmm, perhaps a bit outside of Cobbler but have you considered chaining via
GPXE? (enhanced PXE)
I used GPXE when I started working with Cobbler (for testing with older
hardware.) It may provide a simpler? one-pass chaining solution since you
can boot directly from images but, of course, you still need a method for
managing things (where Cobbler may still work.)

Not sure of what it honestly provides, people seem to talk about it in
different ways.
I have heard something WRT syslinux gaining gPXE support, so if we can
TFTP boot a bootloader that can direct-load an ISO as if it's a CD-ROM
and run it, that's huge.
It also allows for a very simple alternate windows solution -- prepared
ISOs.
Would this be possible?
Maybe something to play with in the coming weeks.
