OK, how can I best help you debug this? When I do koan --profile=XYZ,
the information in kickstart meta is passed in, and the chef run is
done. When I do koan --system=ABC, which is a sytem that uses the XYZ
profile, the kickstart meta information is not passed in (or something
else keeps the chef run from happening.
How can I best go about pinpointing the cause?

Did you ever get a resolution to this?
We're trying to set up autotest to provision existing KVM clients and allow the
users to specify a profile other than the default in cobbler. We have run into
the same issues you did.
