The live-environment would need some interface to customize the rules
used to generate the hostname, for example.
One might have a database (as simple as a text file on a http server, or
maybe even in cobbler -- just have it match some field) containing a
serial number / service tag and populate the parameter list from
there... Or maybe just call koan with the right parameters from python?
The live environment can call simply call koan from %post.
No need for more, no no need for a DB.
Another nice feature would be that you can just pre-create the
objects
that should be used using the XMLRPC, assign all values to the systems,
and have koan gather the missing pieces. MAC-addresses for example. The
only thing you need here is a set of rules to determine which mac
address should go to which interface.
That's a security problem, the live environment won't have credentials.
So we will probably
limit it to just filling in things that don't yet exist.
Anyway, these are just some thoughts. :)
