I roadmap in Cobbler doesn't always mean everything as we always
take
good patches and ideas as they come along, but I think it's still
important to have a few major features for each release. Here's my
plan. As I see major things going on at the moment for the next
release (I want to start releasing /smaller/ releases more often,
rather
than big releases):
-- performance items. Make CLI talk to cobblerd for speedy action in
large configs. Make all operations callable over XMLRPC for better
integration with other apps. (Possibly add better XMLRPC/web
search)
-- Windows support (linux-ris work) for mixed environments (I'll
probably end up helping with this too, since it's a rather big
feature)
Anyone else see any major themes from the RFE list and things you
would
like to see concentrated on for this release or upcoming ones?
https://fedorahosted.org/cobbler/report/1 ?
I had a look through the database, and would suggest reconsidering some
of the things that were left out of 1.3 in addition to what you've
mentioned already. If I had to rank priority for the RFE's I'd say:
1. ris-linux integration (this would be a huge benefit)
2. Better baremetal building support without every connecting a keyboard
(i.e. I order the systems with PXE boot set). I see this mentioned in
ticket 301. I don't know that the specific implementation suggested
would be best - it would be best not to have any sort of "install" be
the default, but if we can find a way of easily registering MAC
addresses for assignment to profiles that would be very helpful.

3. reduce repo size via hardlinking infrastructure (would be good if
this was automated into reposync so it's "automagic").
4. WebUI snippet selection/editing sounds like a helpful feature -
especially for people just getting started.

5. The XMLRPC integration shouldn't be a really big priority in my eyes,
but that may be because I don't fully understand what the benefits will
be.
Anyway, just my $0.02 grain of salt...
