Okay, that sounds reasonable. Since I have the ability to upgrade
yum-utils on this EL5 box, I may just do that as the quick fix and
take a deeper look at making the feature work on EL5 when I have a
free moment or two.

Actually, right after sending this reply it dawned on me that the
behavior I'm seeing is a bit more strange than that.
So the repo I was trying to sync *was* an EL5 repo, definied as such:
[root@srvr ~]# cobbler repo report --name=centos-5-i386-updates
Name : centos-5-i386-updates
Arch : i386
Breed : yum
Comment :
Createrepo Flags : --update -c
/var/www/cobbler/repo_mirror/cache/centos-5-i386-updates
Environment Variables : {}
Keep Updated : True
Mirror :
http://centos.mirrors.tds.net/pub/linux/centos/5/updates/i386/
Mirror locally : True
Owners : ['admin']
Priority : 99
RPM List :
Yum Options : {}
When I run a reposync, I looks like it's syncing a different repository:
[root@srvr ~]# cobbler reposync --only=centos-5-i386-updates
task started: 2009-09-23_142307_reposync
task started (id=Reposync, time=Wed Sep 23 14:23:07 2009)
hello, reposync

I'm willing to accept that this has something to do with my old
configuration from 1.6.6 not being converted properly, but any hints
on what to look at would be appreciated.
Thanks,

It may be that "only" is not being passed properly to cobblerd now,
which is possible, with the command line being rewritten as it has.
Let's make sure there is a bug filed on this one.
