What I am attempting to figure out is if there is some simple way to refer a
pxe client (on request) to a different PXE server? What I envision is
something like: a client PXE boots, and is presented with the cobbler menu,
which contains a menu entry (in addition to all my normal entries) titled
"Altiris" that, when selected, redirects the requesting client to Altiris,
where it loads the PXE boot menu managed on the altiris server.
If i got it right 2 things come to mind:
a) the cobbler-server handling dhcp for all clients. The altiris
clients having an own section in dhcpd.conf, that section having
a separate 'next-server' entry that guides only the altiris-
clients to fetch the netloader from the altiris-server.
Creating the appropriate dhcpd.conf entries for the altiris-
clients could probably be done with cobbler.
b) Playing with etherboots gPXE. See
http://etherboot.org/wiki/commandline - looks like you can present
a menu to all clients, and upon selecting an altiris-entry
gPXE could again load a pxe-image from the altiris-server.
The linux-clients keep getting everything from the cobbler server.
Happy hacking ;)
