setup of system
by Lydia Heck
I downloaded and installed cobbler and configured it.
Then I started to setup an install server, adding a distro, some profiles and
one system.
All looked most straightforward. However, when I looked into the file
created for the system in /tftp/pxelinux.cfg I got
default linux
prompt 0
timeout 1
label linux
kernel /images/SL54-x86_64/vmlinuz
ipappend 2
append initrd=/images/SL54-x86_64/initrd.img ksdevice=bootif lang=kssendmac text ks=http://172.17.11.1/cblr/svc/op/ks/system/m2067
However, try as I might I cannot find
cblr/svc/op/ks/system/m2067 anywhere on my server system
"ks=http://172.17.11.1/cblr/svc/op/ks/system/m2067"
Any idea?

Mass import of hosts
by lists@truthisfreedom.org.uk
Hi all,
Is it possible to perform a "mass import" of hosts?
We currently have all our hosts in /etc/hosts as well as DNS and I'm
wondering if there is an easy way to import these hosts into Cobbler so
we can start to manage the DHCP for the entire network via Cobbler.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Unable to set "None" valued kernel param through XMLRPC
by Justin Sherrill
Hi,
So currently with satellite/spacewalk we use the XMLRPC interface to set
kernel params.
If you want to set something like foo=bar, it's as simple as passing
that key/value pair in a map as "foo":"bar". If you just want the
parameter "foo" though with no value, there is no way to do this. The
most sensible thing from a consumer of the XMLRPC interface is to pass
"foo":"" where the value is an empty string. Cobbler currently renders
this as:
foo=
Instead of just:
foo
I can easy change it to treat empty string the same as None when
rendering the kernel params, but I wanted to get feedback to see if it
would cause any issues. Is there any reason not to make this change?
Thanks!

Satellite 5.3 error on RHEL 5.5
by Christopher Dale
I have a new installation of rhel5u5 with sat 5.3. It is completely patched
with iptables off. I have cobbler, pxe, tftp, dns and dhcp running. Does
anyone know what this error might be about? More importantly, can I fix it?
Thanks in advance.

koan - non sparse file for xen guests
by Wade Peacock
Hello Brain Trust,
I've searched high and low, I can't find an option to have koan create NON sparse file based XEN virtual
machines.
Does anyone have any information on this or can anyone point me to the right documentation?
Thanks,

cobbler profile add --parent doesn't seem to inherit distro properly (v2.0.3)
by Msquared
Hi!
I have a (CentOS 5.4) machine that's running Cobbler 2.0.3, which was
upgraded from Cobbler 1.6.x. Now I can't create any sub-profiles that work.
My first problem was that "--inherit" doesn't seem to exist in Cobbler 2,
but it looks like "--parent" has taken its place.
Now onto the main problem.
With Cobbler 1.6.x, I could create a sub-profile like so:
cobbler profile add \
--name=core-vm \
--inherit=centos-5-4-xen-x86_64 \
--kickstart=/var/lib/cobbler/kickstarts/sample.ks \
--repos="centos-5-x86_64-base centos-5-x86_64-extras centos-5-x86_64-updates epel-5-x86_64" \
--name-servers=192.168.1.254 \
--name-servers-search=mydomain.com.au \
--virt-ram=768 \
--virt-file-size=12 \
--virt-path=vgvirt
After the upgrade to Cobbler 2, I tried to create a similar sub-profile,
like so:
cobbler profile add \
--name=core-vm-test \
--parent=centos-5-4-xen-x86_64 \
--kickstart=/var/lib/cobbler/kickstarts/sample.ks \
--repos="centos-5-x86_64-base centos-5-x86_64-extras centos-5-x86_64-updates epel-5-x86_64" \
--name-servers=192.168.1.254 \
--name-servers-search=mydomain.com.au \
--virt-ram=768 \
--virt-file-size=12 \
--virt-path=vgvirt
The sub-profile appears to have been created OK, but in the WUI the new
sub-profile has an empty Distro:
Name Distro Actions
centos-5-4-x86_64 centos-5-4-x86_64 Edit ...
centos-5-4-xen-x86_64 centos-5-4-xen-x86_64 Edit ...
core-vm <<inherit>> Edit ...
core-vm-test Edit ...
rescue-centos-5-4-x86_64 centos-5-4-x86_64 Edit ...
When I try to use koan to create a VM based on the new sub-profile, it
fails:

It looks like its missing the distro component of the path to the initrd

I'm sure there should be a distro name where the '~' is.
If I create a VM based on the original sub-profile (created with Cobbler
1.6.x), then it works fine. I can even create a copy of a sub-profile, and
use that as the basis for a system; that system will also install fine.
Any ideas where to start with this?
Is this a regression, or have I missed something that's different with
Cobbler 2?

Auto toggle netboot-enabled=false on a per-profile basis?
by Lance Laursen
Hey guys,
First off, I'm trying to kick off a "light touch" Server2k8 install with
cobbler. This involves using cobbler to boot an ISO boot cd, which basically
contains a WinPE environment which maps a network drive and kicks off the
rest of the server2008 installation. The problem? After the first few phases
of the windows install, a reboot happens.
Since there's no "wget http://cobbler/cblr/svc/op/nopxe/...." in the WinPE
environment, and it's not particularly flexible because it's microsoft, I
was wondering if it is possible to have netboot-enabled automatically toggle
to False upon a boxes contact with cobbler(dhcpd), and/or on a per-profile
basis (ie: servers with profile=win2k8). If not on a per-profile basis, is
there a global option somewhere that I could maybe hack and slash some code
from?
We deploy linux servers on a large scale and don't want to babysit stupid
windows installations, or do it properly with active directory and network
segregation. Workflow for provisioning a windows server would be: cobbler
system edit --name=server123 --netboot-enabled=true , power cycle system,
DONE. If cobbler doesn't provide this feature i'll have to look into
slamming Wget for Winderz into the WinPE environment and running it after
doing a reverse dns lookup to get the hostname (puke). Also, is there a list
of "wget http://...." functions that cobbler supports in documentation
anywhere?
Thanks all
