Hi
I seem to be encountering an issue trying to import a CentOS 5.3 tree -
I am doing exactly what i normally would as far as i can tell but has
anyone got any thoughts?

Re: Boot Menu
by Vic

The boot menu is generated from action_buildiso.py (probably in
/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/cobbler/ or similar). You can change it
in there to your heart's content...

Koan self-replace from a different distrib
by Fabien Dupont
Hi.
A few days ago I had to remaster a server from fc8 to centos5.2. Thus I
created a system in my cobbler install pointing to the centos5.2 profile and
tried to use koan --self-replace. The problem I ran in is that fc8's kernel
is not compatible with centos5.2 anaconda (seems logic).
Then I thought that it would have been great that koan download the kernel
and initrd while creating the grub menu entry.
But maybe I missed something, I should dig my own grave and die ;)

Small bug in webui
by Léon Keijser
Hi,
When editing a profile via the webui there's no default choice selected
for virt-type so when you save the changes an error occurs.
When selecting a virt-type this error doesn't occur.
# rpm -q cobbler
cobbler-1.6.3-3.el5
(latest version including the 'per_profile snippet / Cheetah / repos and
other unicode related problems' patch)

Dumb newbie question
by Vic
Hi All.
I'm setting up my first cobbler server, and I've done something stupid.
I've had a search round, but I can't find what I need. I'm sure one of you
gurus can show me the error of my ways :-)
My cobbler server is one on network, and my target box is on another. I
have a sequence of routers inbetween, and I can get data from one box to
the other.
I imported a Fedora distribution DVD into the cobbler server & added a
system. My profiles show up like this:
[vic@goliath ~]$ sudo cobbler list profiles
distro Fedora8-i386
profile Fedora8-i386
system IndiaMockup
profile rescue-Fedora8-i386
distro Fedora8-xen-i386
profile Fedora8-xen-i386
I built a boot CD with the buildiso command, and that CD boots the target
box. The target box requests the profile from the cobbler server, and gets
it back. This is where things go wrong...
The profile file initially was empty except for two comments about leaving
it empty for unattended operation (which is what I'm trying to achieve).
I've tried a couple of things in there - none of them useful.
Whatever I've tried so far, the target box just ends up asking me what
language I'd like to use for installation - it doesn't ask for (or
receive) the kickstart file I created (which is in the list on the cobbler
server).
Can someone put me out of my misery?
Thanks!
Vic.

manually add records into dhcp.template ?
by Tom Brown
I am expanding cobbler out and starting to try and use it in
environments where dhcp is used by systems that cobbler would not
manage. Therefore is it possible to manually add definitions into
dhcp.template and have these rendered out into /etc/dhcpd.conf so that
they can still be served a dhcp address and yet have cobbler not know
about them ?
I tried it but they dont get rendered out and so i am just wondering if
its possible as i am sure it used to be.

Templating error on per_profile template
by Alex Davies
Hi,
I've just built a new cobbler machine this evening and have a problem
with snippets that is probably very obvious but I can't work out.
If I create a completly blank per_profile snippet, suddenly cheetah
throws a wobbly. The relevant line in the .ks file is
$SNIPPET('partition')
With this line commented, all works well. With this line in the file
however as soon as I create the correct file in the per_profile
directory it all falls apart:
[root@cobbler ~]# cobbler system getks --name=test
# Works fine
[root@cobbler partition]# pwd
/var/lib/cobbler/snippets/per_profile/partition
[root@cobbler partition]# touch centos5-xen-x86_64
[root@cobbler ~]# cobbler system getks --name=test
# *** ERROR ***
#
# There is a templating error preventing this file from rendering correctly.
#
# This is most likely not due to a bug in Cobbler and is something you can fix.
#
# Look at the message below to see what things are causing problems.
#
# (1) Does the template file reference a $variable that is not defined?
# (2) is there a formatting error in a Cheetah directive?
# (3) Should dollar signs ($) be escaped that are not being escaped?
#
# Try fixing the problem and then investigate to see if this message goes
# away or changes.

#
I'm running cobbler 1.6.3 on CentOS 5.3 (epel testing RPM).
I know that the output tells me that this probably isnt a bug and
almost certainly me being thick, I would love someone to point me in
the right direction!
Many thanks,
Alex

Puppet certificates management
by Fabien Dupont
Hi all.
An idea came through my mind as I was interconnecting my Cobbler et Puppet
instances through Extrenal Nodes.
Wouldn't it be possible to have Cobbler manage Puppet's host certificates
the way it manages DHCP and DNS. As far as the Puppet instance is on the
same server it wouldn't be difficult to call puppetca and we could think of
downloading certificates from Cobbler SVC during installation time through a
snippet.
What do you think of this idea ?
