SIGs, projects, and leadership

Right after reminding us that steering committee (FDSCo) elections are due right away[1], Paul asked on IRC this morning if we should consider reverting to a SIG status: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DefiningProjects#SIGs I have concerns about that reverting concept based on the way a SIG and a project are described there, but I think I have a grasp on what Paul is saying. A SIG has fewer requirements for leadership to do stuff such as: * Hold and attend regular meetings * Hold elections * Report across to other projects in a predictable manner We don't seem to be doing any of those three very well. I'd be tempted to follow the Fedora guideline of "when you cease being effective as a leader, quit and get out of the way." Another option is for more of us (including me!) to be stronger leaders and embrace the role of making the project details work, to support all of you in the great work you are doing. Regardless, these are matters that shouldn't directly affect our ability to produce content. But they do affect how we move into the future. So far, being a project seems to have helped our growth and focus. What next? A. Revitalize the Docs Project leadership, hold elections, and keep things moving ... or ... B. AdminGuide - samba

I am re-checking it for technical correctness now but the page also needs word smithing and style edits for easier XML conversion, so please have a go at it. All going well, we might be able to include it in a pilot docbook conversion session (likely to happen this coming weekend?). Hi all, My name is Malcolm Jacobson and I work as a Technical Writer in Brisbane, Australia. I have come to this list because I am trying to find out if it is possible to contribute to Fedora documentation on an ad-hoc basis. If I'm not in the right place I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction. My first exposure to Linux was around 2001 (Red Hat Linux 7, I think) when the boss of the company I was working for retrenched all of our programmers and IT staff, then told me that "administering the Sendmail server is now part of your job". Imagine my joy. Since then I've experimented with various flavours of Linux, with the most recent being Ubuntu and Fedora, which brought me here. During the installation of Fedora 8 I encountered a problem with the DNS settings I wanted to use. I read through all of the "Network Administration Tool" Help and asked a few questions on forums but couldn't resolve the issue, so I ended up posting a BugZilla report. Thanks to the incredibly helpful Harald Hoyer I found out that the fix was a simple matter of clearing a particular check box that is enabled by default. This check box isn't covered in the Network Administration Tool Help, so I thought I'd quickly update it so the next person who encountered the same problem didn't clog up BugZilla with another "notabug" report. Unfortunately, after several days searching, I can't locate the repository for this Help and I can't work out how to contribute updates to a single topic. Is there some sort of Wiki available where people can upload/update documentation that will be included in the next release of Fedora? Is it possible to contribute on an ad-hoc basis (e.g. a single topic), or are you only allowed to contribute if you become part of a larger project? Unfortunately I don't have the spare time to become involved in any projects, but I would like to contribute what I can, when I can, if there is mechanism to do this. Cheers, Malcolm.

multi monitor display over network

Hi to all, I want to setup multi monitor display for my computer. I work in lab where i cannot add a hardware (needed for multi monitor display)... so what i want is that there are many computer which no body using , i want to transfer display to them over network. in other word i want to add a monitor over network. is there any work or suggestion so that i can do this. We mount remote file system. Short stories, poetry and presently almost finished a novel. Answering forum questions. o Computer skills: Intermediate in most areas, very strong in some. o I'm not a bad code monkey. o I've managed a software development project. o Some electrical and hard hack skills, using Linux (or no OS) of course :P. o What makes you an excellent match for the project? In a short amount of time I can product awesome work. Improving Fedora and the Linux experience is a very good thing.
