Guide on release notes translation?
by Dimitris Glezos
Hello.
I searched the wiki for a page explaining how the translation of the
beats work (or should work), but didn't find any.
Some other questions that come to my mind concerning the relnotes
translation:
* Does the "release notes freeze day" mean that a translator can't
(or shouldn't) translate the .po file earlier?
* Is the 'release-notes/devel' cvs module updated from the wiki before
the freeze day so that we can star working on the translation before the
freeze day?
* If yes, how often?
* What's the best way to retain the translated parts of the older
beats without translating them again?
If there is such a page (targeted for translators, not beat writers),
someone please point it out to me (sorry for not finding it).
If not, then I believe such a page would be useful, because the
translation of the release notes are somewhat different from the rest of
the docs.
Thanks.

Updated Server Guide for Fedora Core 5
by Miles Brennan
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi all,
I wrote the "Linux Home Server HOWTO" which is located at
http://www.brennan.id.au, and I have just recently updated the
documentation for Fedora Core 5, this was an extensive rewrite (with
further additional info) for many chapters.
The HOWTO is approx 20 chapters which covers all aspects of setting up
FC as a home gateway server as a step-by-step guide for beginners to
intermediates - yum, bind (with DDNS update conf), ntpd, dhcpd, squid,
sendmail, dovecot, spamassassin, clamav (and milter), vsftpd, cups,
sshd, mysqld, samba, nfs (and V4), and ldap etc... and a chapter
explaining the concepts of iptables/firewall configs.
I wanted to move this HOWTO into the docs project last year, however
with work commitments I did not have the time to update it for FC4 (sorry).
I would like some feedback on the updated HOWTO if need be, or it's
suitability within the docs project area.
I have created an account on the wiki - MilesBrennan (no write access yet).
Regards,
Miles Brennan

Paul,
It is excellent news thank you!
Then now I might need someone for proofreading.
Bad news is still I am getting incomplete built.
I've cvs up'd docs-common/, run make distclean at
transaltion-quick-start-guide/, then make html-ja_JP again.
Everything beautifully shows up in Japanese except only this para but
this para in English...

new writer intro
by Ria Caussyn
Hello -
My name's Ria Caussyn. I'm in the US/Eastern Time Zone. I guess that would be something like GMT -4 or -5. I'm a database administrator in the Tru64 unix environment. I've also used Red Hat Enterprise 3.0 for Oracle production databases and was quite pleased with the results. I've used unix/linux for over 10 years - started using linux with the 50 floppy disk SLAC ware distribution. Almost all my experience is from the user side - could probably use some more sysadmin experience. I use Scientific Linux at home, which is basically Fedora 4. I'm kind of a jack of all trades - java, apache, j2ee, perl, korn shell, C, fortran, oracle stuff, etc.
Writing - I've done some sports writing. I won't be useful for translation because English (South Eastern US dialect, y'all) is the only language I know. Bad on me. I'm told that I'm good at translating tech talk for managers.
Goals in Fedora Project - I don't have any specific goals. What motivates me is that I've gotten a lot of use out of linux over the years and I'd like to give something back.. and I would like to try my hand at technical writing.
Anyway, I hope the intro isn't too verbose.

Language locale order?
by Dimitris Glezos
Is there an order we should use for the locales in the OTHERS variable
and elsewhere (first come first serve or alphabetical)?

It occurs to me we could even do away with committing the extra XML
files, instead doing a build of the PO when needed during the document
build, and using the move-if-change function. Hmm...
