thanks--
yeah- that seems to be the direction I'm heading as well. I'm
familiar with using apt-mirror to mirror/maintain ubuntu repositories.
I had hoped to just have everything neatly configured from within
Cobbler, but that doesn't seem quite possible (yet?).
At least it'll be nice to manage the preseed files and pxe-boot stuff
via Cobbler. And since we also use Centos for servers, Cobbler does a
nice job of handling all aspects of managing that distro.

Hi,
We mirror Ubuntu alternatively and do not try to engage cobbler for
this. Cobbler is the way we install Ubuntu LTS 12.04 and 14.04 for both
our desktop and server clients. Though note that with 14.04 it seems
that they don't ship PXE files for the desktop version but we just use
the server PXE files.
If you mirror what you need you can use the following preseed values to
set the installation source (you could even just use a public repository).
# Setup the installation source
d-i mirror/protocol string http
d-i mirror/country string manual
d-i mirror/http/hostname string
myubuntu.server.com
d-i mirror/http/directory string /ubuntu
d-i mirror/http/proxy string
I also like to kill from the
/var/lib/cobbler/scripts/preseed_late_default file
$SNIPPET('late_apt_repo_config') as this adds the repo from the server.
I just imported from the Ubuntu 14.04 server disk to create the distro
and profile (added a second profile for desktop that just uses the
server distro to boot up and then make sure you have the right
tasksel[1] setup in its own preseed).
[1] - tasksel tasksel/first multiselect ubuntu-desktop
Thanks,
derek
