Error for koan during provisioning
by Matt Willsher
Hi,
I'm trying to get the provisioning of KVM VMs using Spacewalk 1.8 +
cobbler working, but I'm having a problem with koan starting the
build. I've defined the virtual bridge in spacewalk to be one (or
several) that exists on the host.
The rhn_check output is the same as if I run 'koan --server
spacewalk.my.domain.somewhere -y node2.my.domain.somewhere:2:test1 -B
br20 --virt'
It seems that network_count is set to TypeNone or something similar
(sorry, I'm not a Python programmer).
Spacewalk is running in a VM on the same VM host (it is vnet0 in the
brctl show output below)
Thanks,
Matt

Yeah, that's what I was saying. In permissive mode everything works.

How do I update Cobbler repo mirrors without messing it all up ?
by Dan White
My initial build of a Cobbler server was back when Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.7 was the latest.
Since then, I had noticed that newly provisioned servers needed hundreds of updates at the first "yum update",
so I tried to update my Cobbler repos.
I imported the 5.8 install iso's and made two base 5.8 profiles (server and workstation), updated all my system and profile definitions and then tried to delete the rhel-5.7 distros/profiles/whatever
That's when I started getting task failures and reports of missing packages and such.
I am of the opinion that I may have to completely delete my local repo mirrors and rebuild them all from scratch to recover from this.
Does anyone see anything horribly wrong with what I did ?
Is there a better way to do this ? Should I have created a rhel5 mirror instead of a rhel5.7 mirror ?
Will Batman and Robin escape the evil clutches of CatWoman unscratched ?

2.4.0 beta3 RPMs available
by James Cammarata
I've gone ahead and taken another snapshot of the 2.4.0 branch and
released the next beta RPM. Hopefully this will be the last beta
release before the official 2.4.0 (assuming no one finds any major
issues).
This version includes:
CHANGES
* Signature based imports! See here for more info:
http://cobbler.github.com/manuals/2.4.0/4/2/3_-_Distro_Signatures.html
* Kernel options are now evaluated as templates for variable
substitution - this means you can use @@http_server@@ in kopts now.
* Network snippets will use ip instead of ifconfig, when available
* New koan option --virt-pxe-boot (also configurable per-system),
which will force a new VM to PXE boot instead of relying on the
--location argument
* Enhanced cheetah template rendering error reporting. Things such as
undefined references are now logged in cobbler.log, so when you just
see $SNIPPET in your rendered templates now it will be easier for you
to figure out why
* Moved get-loaders content to cobbler.github.com
BUGFIXES:
* Fix for "NoneType' object has no attribute 'lower" error on distro rename
* CLI edit not respecting hash item deletion syntax ('~')
* Issue #313 - "-m" option is no longer valid in reposync, using "-n" instead
* Fixed proxy support for get-loaders
* Ubuntu was not checked as a breed in the kickstart_done snippet
The big change here is the import signature support. For those who
haven't heard me talk about this in the past, the idea is to have a
data file that tells cobbler what to look for when importing distros
so that in the future more can be added without requiring an upgrade
to cobbler. Read more about using the new "cobbler signature" command
at the URL above.
Speaking of that, I've gone ahead and forked the manual to the 2.4.0
version, and have been doing a lot more work on cleaning up
documentation while adding docs on all the new stuff in 2.4.0. The new
website is also live, which uses the Twitter Bootstrap framework to
make things nice and pretty.
Enjoy!

cobbler-config.repo with cobbler on alternative port
by Alaric Haag
Hello all,
I'm quite new to Cobbler, but have made substantial progress and am grateful for this project!
I run my Cobbler server on a non-standard port, and notice that the cobbler-config.repo that lands in /etc/yum.repos.d/ of a new client install looks like this:
[core-0]
name=core-0
baseurl=http://x.x.x.x:NNNN/cobbler/ks_mirror/CentOS-6.2-x86_64
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0
priority=1
[CentOS-6.2-x86_64]
name=CentOS-6.2-x86_64
baseurl=http://x.x.x.x/cobbler/repo_mirror/CentOS-6.2-x86_64
enabled=1
priority=99
gpgcheck=0
That is, the "core-0" repo gets the alternate port, but the "CentOS..." repo I set up does not.
Consequently, the "yum check-update" command fails until I add the port to the baseurl assignment.
My digging suggested this is generated by the code in "kickgen.py" but it uses the "$http_server" variable in both the "generate_repo_stanza" and "generate_config_stanza" methods, so I'd expect the port number in any case. I'm not sure where to dig in the code beyond that...
FYI, my kickstart does contain the "$yum_config_stanza" variable, and I do have yum_post_install_mirror set to "1".
Any thoughts/suggestions as to why no port number??
Many thanks!

Corrupt package in a Cobbler-mirrored repo
by Dan White
I am having troubles with an alleged corrupt package.
The kickstart comes to a screeching halt, saying:
"The file nmap-4.11-2.x86_64.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source."
Well, it is not missing.
rpm -K says it is OK.
I tried deleting it, doing a "yum clean all" and then a complete "cobbler reposync", but I get the same garbage.

access the wrong "primary.sqlite" file.
From goggling, I can see that this file carries a date of 2012-12-07,
while the current files are dated 2012-12-10.
Does it matter that the system running reposync is RHEL5?
Thanks in advance.

Explanation of max_delta_rpm_size

Greetings!
When I run 'cobbler reposync', I get numerous messages similar to this:

What is max_delta_rpm_size and how does it affect a cobbler reposync action?
Thanks!
