x86_64 EFI + PXE boot question
by Justin Bandholz
I have a few new IBM Nehalem servers that use EFI instead of BIOS. It
does not appear that cobbler directly supports x86_64 EFI. I expect
that this is because SYSLINUX does not support EFI yet. I have found
other documentation that shows how to use grub.efi to PXE boot EFI
systems but, it appears that the boot menu and environment that cobbler
automatically builds could not be used. Does anyone have any experience
integrating x86_64 EFI systems and cobbler (other than using legacy mode)?
Thank you,
Justin

Editing kernel cmdline
by Diego M. Vadell
Hi *,
I'm trying to install Fedora 11 and see the console via serial console. So
I edited /etc/cobbler/settings and added
serial: ~
console: 'ttyS1,115200'
to the kernel_options option.
I can see the BIOS and the kernel booting, but after it boots I don't see
anaconda's output. Checking out the installation kernel's ouput, the
parameters are :
Command line: initrd=/images/Fedora11-x86_64/initrd.img ksdevice=bootif
lang= console=ttyS1,115200 console=tty0 nomodeset text serial kssendmac
ks=http://10.50.0.1/cblr/svc/op/ks/system/exitos2
BOOT_IMAGE=/images/Fedora11-x86_64/vmlinuz BOOTIF=01-00-15-17-b5-3b-4c
I think that the problem is the order of the parameters:
"console=ttyS1,115200 console=tty0". I would like to make "console=tty0"
dissapear. I searched the wiki, but I couldn't find anything. Does anybody
know how can I stop cobbler from adding that console=tty0?
Thanks in advance,
-- Diego.

cobbler-web 2.0.0 issue
by Mykel Alvis
Using cobbler-web 2.0.0 rel 1.fc12
I just tried to copy a system using the UI and Django puked at me.
The most telling thing I see is 'dns-name duplicated'
This appears to be a bug to me. Can anyone replicate? If so, just
let me know and I'll report.

Kernel options problems
by Oliver von Behr Kuster
Hi,
I'm setting up a pxe boot server with cobbler(also being used as a mirror)
and was having problems setting a non-install linux(chaos-1.6) pxeboot.
Chaos-1.6 is a 'livecd' cluster linux which needs the following
pxelinux.cfg:
label linux
kernel /images/Chaos-1.6-i386/bzimage
ipappend 2
append initrd=/images/Chaos-1.6-i386/
chaos.rdz panic=10 root=/dev/ram0 rw init=/sbin/init SSHD=1 BOOT=1 SHELL=1
DHCP=1 TYD=2 OMAUTO=2
which I divided into the following distro,profile and system kernel options:
distro: panic=10 root=/dev/ram0 rw init=/sbin/init //default boot
options
profile: SSHD=1 BOOT=1 SHELL=1 DHCP=1 //more or less specific boot
options
system: TYD=2 OMAUTO=2 //cluster specific
(slave/master)
which was good and fine until I checked the corrensponding pxelinux.cfg:
LABEL Chaos-1.6-i386
kernel /images/Chaos-1.6-i386/bzimage
MENU LABEL Chaos-1.6-i386
append initrd=/images/Chaos-1.6-i386/chaos.rdz ksdevice=eth0 lang=
SSHD=1 rw text BOOT=1 i
nit=/sbin/init SHELL=1 DHCP=1 root=/dev/ram0 panic=10 kssendmac
ipappend 2
where the options are totally mixed and 'ksdevice=eth0,lang,text,kssendmac'
options are introduced(which can, more or less, be removed through the
cobbler settings file)
Even if the kernel options were to be kept together but instead they are
thoroughly mixed.
Is there any way to configure this mess without having to manually overwrite
and keep the pxeboot files ? thanks.

[ANN] Presenting Cobbler 2.0.2
by Alex Wood
We're happy to announce that Cobbler 2.0.2 is now in Fedora testing. We
had originally scheduled this release for late November but ran into a
few logistical problems actually getting the package out to Fedora.
The package will move into Fedora stable in a week or so assuming no one
encounters any major bugs.
The F12 packages can be found under the following tree:
http://download.fedora.devel.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux//updates/testing...
The change log is below
- (FEAT) Added support for Cobbler4j
- (FEAT) Added method for enabling autostart on qemu domains
- (BUGF) web ui: move sessions directory to /var
- (BUGF) Update the vlanpattern regex to cover more common virtual
interface formats
- (BUGF) cobbler check: fix BIND detection
- (BUGF) Fix error message creating profile without a distro
- (BUGF) use proper HTTP error codes
- (BUGF) Create more intuitive system for displaying actions under
configuration items.
- (BUGF) Fixed hardlinking
- (BUGF) Creating subprofile in WebUI no longer fails on default_ownership
- (BUGF) No longer delete excluded files in reposync rsync
- (BUGF) Add fedora12 and fedora13 as valid 'redhat' versions
- (BUGF) Correct improper distro creation while importing i386 Fedora/RHEL.
- (BUGF) Better messaging for invalid object errors
- (BUGF) Added a legacy sync mechanism
- (BUGF) No longer bundle libraries on distros where they are already
available
And on a personal note, thanks to everyone for bearing with us as we are
learning to fill Michael's shoes.

cobbler-web and spaces in profile names
by Dale Bewley
cobbler-web-2.0.1-1.fc11.noarch allows you to create profile names with spaces in them, but bombs when attempting to rename them.
Also the names with spaces are not escaped in any way when passed to the ks boot arg, so they don't work.
Prehaps cobbler-web could disallow spaces in profile names or convert them to _.

adding memtest86+ image
by Dale Bewley
The instructions at https://fedorahosted.org/cobbler/wiki/MemTest say to simply:
# yum install memtest86+
# cobbler sync
and memtest will appear at the bottom of your menus after all of the profiles.
This is true, it is copied and added to the pxelinux config:
copying: /boot/memtest86+-2.11 -> /var/tftpboot/memtest86+-2.11
However, the path is incorrect.
[root@noc pxelinux.cfg]# pwd
/var/tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg
[root@noc pxelinux.cfg]# grep memtest default
LABEL memtest86+-2.11
kernel /images/memtest86+-2.11
MENU LABEL memtest86+-2.11
Either the copy should be into the images directory, or the menu should have '/images' removed. Not knowing which is likely to be preferred in the fix, I created a hardlink as a workaround for now.
[root@noc images]# ln ../memtest86+-2.11 memtest86+-2.11

missing directory "op" at /var/www/cobbler/svc
by Hans Klassen
Hello at all,
I had a old and good running cobbler installation with version 0.6 when I remember correct.
Then I add EPEL repository to my CentOS 5.4 x86_64 and upgraded cobbler and koan to latest version of 1.6.6.
And here my problem began. I was not able to run the command "cobbler validateks" successful after the upgrade and I get following message...
